I just got back from South Carolina (The fans there are very odd mix, I've been treated bad and good on the road but never both. Students are terrible towards visitors and the Older people in attendance were very kind the entire night). The heisman hype has gotten to Snead, I think he feels he has to make a heisman play every time he touches the ball instead of making the smart play, he tried to force several deep balls last night when the short pass was there all night. Next I blame play calling a lot. Offense no idea why we didn't run Dexter out of the backfield all night. He had almost a hundred yards rushing in the fourth quarter. Fake field goal in the 2nd quarter makes no sense to me. As great as the defense looked the play calling on defense was bad in my opinion. Blitz blitz blitz, and leave man coverage all the way down the field then get inside the 10 and do a zone blitz and hold them to 1 touchdown in 4 redzone trips. Ole Miss' corners are not that great and need a lot of safety help, why Tyrone Nix doesn't give it to them I don't know. But this is a game that will haunt me all year because I feel Ole Miss was better than South Carolina, but South Carolina wanted it more and had better play calling for the most part (still don't know why Spurrier comes out and throws 3 straight passes on 2 possessions in a row with under 7 minutes in the fourth quarter).

 

South Carolina also has one of the best game atmospheres as far as crowd enthusiasm I've ever seen (I've been to 8 of the 12 SEC stadiums now too).

I got blasted for saying they were a few days ago. I don't remember anyone else stepping up and agreeing.

 

I told you from the get go they could lose 3 games this season, but I also said and I still believe you can't look at LSU and Bama and say in Oxford they are guaranteed to beat Ole Miss either.

To be honest the SEC as a conference was a little overrated. After Florida and Bama there is a drop off.

 

Well, apparently, nobody else in college football is that good anyway, so it all evens out.

Yes, after the #1 and #3 team in the country there is a drop off. The SEC is the best conference, so I don't know how it could be overrated. Maybe there isn't as big a gap as some think? Tell me who is close to them though? The Big 12 has seen Oklahoma fall... the Pac-10 has seen USC & Oregon fall... those would have to be the next two conferences in line right?

I am not saying it isn't the strongest conference but it definitely hasn't lived up to the hype. LSU has their hands full with the Washington, Georiga looses to OKSt, Tennessee gets man handled by UCLA then Florida struggles with Tennessee at home, SC struggles with NCSt, then #4 in the country Ole Miss looks more like #54 against SC.

 

People need to quit looking just at the games against SEC opponents and look at the out of conference games.

There is a lot of parity.

I guess my question is if the SEC is overrated... then which conference is closing the gap since the beginning of the season?

Though they haven't showed it well the last few weeks I think the Pac-10 is a really underrated conference. I thought by the end of they year they had a lot of teams playing really well. They went undefeated in bowl season. I don't think they are the SEC but their conference is improving.
