I was sad to learn last night that Ben Stringer (OL) is done for the season - from a knee injury he got in the Ironton game. I hate to see him lose the rest of his senior season. He is a great young man, from a great family - I wish him a full and speedy recovery and all the best in his future.

 

That is terrible news. I believe this is the 4th year in a row the Tomcats have had a starter out with a knee injury. In 06, Luke Bonner was out for over half the season, Taylor Walker was out in 07, Dominic deMartino in 08, and now Stringer.

I am devastated by this news. I just talked to Ben the other night, and his hope was to miss this weeks game, have the open week, and be back for the Johnson Central game. I know Ben worked his butt off in preparation for his senior season. You won't find a better kid than Ben. He is just a happy, go lucky kid that always has a smile on his face. My heart goes out to him.

I was told this news by several dad's with sons on the team, I believe it's an accurate report.

 

I really hate it for Ben. I know he worked hard in the off season.

ESPN recruiting insider has him listed as the 4th ranked QB in the state of Ohio with a grade of 74. That's the highest i've seen from a player around here in a long time. He pitches the ball and goes downfield for a block!

This is really bad news on several fronts. Obviously, no one wants to see a player injured but from all reports I hear, Ben worked his tail off during the offseason and was probably the most improved player on the team. I believe he held a team record or two on physical strength as well.

Football aside, best of luck to Ben and I hope he has a speedy and complete recovery. He will be missed.

The more I read about the Waverly QB, the more I wonder why Waverly has so few votes in the poll. It sounds like this guy is probably going to be the best QB Ashland faces this year. If any position lends itself to "winning a game singlehandedly", it would be QB. I'm still picking Ashland to win, but they better be careful to not overlook Waverly or let down too much from the emotional high of last week.

I would think it would limit him tremendously. From watching his highlight videos he likes to roll out of the pocket alot. IMO running and planting your feet, then stepping up to throw is a hard task in the rain!

Don't discount the factor of Putnam Stadium being a bit bewildering

to Waverly. Playing at home can certainly be a plus for Ashland after

last week's big game. If intimidation can actually be counted on as

a home field factor/advantage, the first time visitors from Ohio could

get caught up in that a bit, in a venue such as Putnam Stadium.

Im looking forward to this QB matchup too RamFan...and if Ashland faces a better player at that position this regular season, I dont know who it would be.
