Chris Wallace Assessment of WH

Featured Replies

I'm not sure. Every administration has a media strategy. I sincerely doubt this is the first one to "work the refs" as Wallace put it.

Been happening as long as there's been media I would think. Every adminstration has to have had their pets and whipping boys.

Why does any administration "owe" it to any network to do an interview? Its obvious Fox is gunning for this administration. Why then go on their network and add to their ratings?

The bad part about the Obama administration's (and a big portion of Dems) attempt to minimize Fox News is that they dominate in the ratings, and it is not even close. Whether Fox News is a "Republican mouthpiece" or not, it is very stupid to simply ignore the media elephant in the room.

Fox and Right Side Radio dominate. No question.

With their public stance of supporting and encouraging protests against the administration why would they then want to help them with their ratings despite their anit-administration stance?

What good could come out of it?

1) Your perception of Fox News is 10X worse than what it really is. I have never seen open campaigning to get out and protest against the administration. We know Hannity and Beck are far right and will be against Obama no matter what he says, but there is not near the axe grinding that is being portrayed.

2) Not every person that watches Fox News is hard core Republican. I definitely am not. Fox did not become popular because it is a conservative leaning station. It became popular because the coverage is better, a lot of the anchors are hot, and contrary to what man say, both sides of a story stated.

3) If you want to actually "reach out" across the aisle as every politician says they want to do, you would think targeting a huge market such as Fox News would be the way to go. Or they can just continue to take shots at Fox News from the nose bleed seats. Option 2 is not the way to go. Going on O'Reilly helps Obama a lot more than refusing to go on O'Reilly. Beck and Hannity I would not touch with an 80 mile pole.

Well, it seems that Fox has been caught trying to whip up one of the tea bagger crowds for a shot. Not to mention their free publicity following the tea baggers around. It looked to me that they weren't covering the news, they were trying to make the news. Hmmm. Guess those hidden camera gotchas work both ways. Fox refused to show the presidents address to congress and keeps a guy on the air that says the president hates white people. Why would anyone want to dignify that kind of company by giving them an interview.

I don't think this position in media management should come as a surprise to anyone. Obama's advisors had drawn a line in the sand long before they were officially an administration. Apparently Chris Wallace has forgotten how "space had run out" on Obama's campaign plane during the final swing, and reporters from Washington Post, New York Post, and Dallas Morning News were "left at the gate and given travel vouchers for future flights".

I hope George Stephanopoulus enjoyed his last interview to be granted by the

current administration. Has Robert Gibbs announced yet that all Merriam-Webster dictionaries will be pulled from public libraries and schools?

They became popular during the second gulf war because of their imbedded reports, much like CNN took off during the first gulf war.

He already has, multiple times.

2 of the 3 you mention ARE the network. Beck and Hannity cannot see straight when it comes to President Obama. They have lost their mind and will report anything negative they can either find or come up with. Beck organized the 9.12 march and brought producers to stir up the crowd.

90% of the audience is what you would refer to as "hard core Republican."

"Reaching out" is a myth and a waste of time. I don't believe our parties want to do what's right for the country. They want to win for their party.

Absolutely correct!

As to the audience, before last year's election a study came out that found Fox News the most balanced of the cable networks. Republicans only outnumbered democrats by a few points. CNN was the most unbalanced with about half of their audience claiming to be democrat vs about 20% republican. MSNBC was between those two.

Then a lot of non-hardcore Republicans are tuning into see the freak show that is Hannity and Beck.

Clyde, you are anything but a hardcore Republican, and you know more about those shows than this very right-dominated board.

I have no numbers, but I'd guess about 70% of Fox's viewers watch for the right-leaning spin and incorrectly call it unbiased, and the other 30% watch because they hate what they perceive to be a right-WING bias. In reality, Fox is just like any other news channel (but with much better looking anchors); not close to the center but not close to the wing, either.

Could be, the poll I mentioned was the overall network survey. My guess is that individual shows vary widely in their audience. I can't see anyone but the far right and left tuning into those two, albeit for very different reasons.

I used to watch FoxNews, but I just can't stomach the negativity anymore. It's like a bunch of lions circling, waiting to pounce on prey.
