Halftime Clock

Good Information. Thanks..

Why not just add three minutes to halftime then. I find it annoying when time is added back on.

Me too. That's what I was getting at in my initial post. Why not just make it longer?

Writing down.... pants..... required.....

I won't miss that one, again!!!!

Please tell me there is a requirement of the officials to wear pants.

When was the last time anyone was at a game where 2 bands performed?

I can't tell you the last time I saw that.

They keep it seperate to remind the coaches it is warm-up time not half-time talk time. At the Rules clinics for Head Coaches and Officials, it was mentioned that a study from Ohio State showed that 40% of all injuries requiring missing of games occur in the first 3 minutes of the second half. This is an effort to prevent injury. So, as stated above, when the 15 minutes expires, half-time adjustments are over and warm-up time is in progress.

Also, as mentioned, it is an emphasis point from the National Federation this year.

Here in VA I see it every year when the city school plays one of the two county schools. :thumb:

It is a rule, each team had an additional 3 minutes after the halftime clock expires, 15 minutes for regular game and 20 minutes for special occasions; Homecoming, Bowl, etc. The team doesn't even have to be on the field then either, they just have to be lined up when the additional 3 minutes expires in Kickoff or Return formation.

Actually, by rule, a team must be on the playing surface when the 3 minute clock is started or it is a penalty. Which means they have to be on the field before the first 15 minutes runs out. I learned that one from an official at the Ray Correll Bowl this year.
