Ricky Rubio says No to the NBA

Featured Replies

The NBA is flat out stupid if they don't have something in place to keep players like this from ever entering the NBA again! It costs a lot of money, is a black eye and hurts the competative balance.

I hate when losers enter the NBA Draft and then get upset when they don't go to the team they want to go to.

Doesn't bother me one bit. No different than Eli saying he didn't want to go to San Diego. Its all about leverage. The Wolves took a chance and lost.

The kid made the right decision for him. I applaud him for putting himself in that position.

The kid should be banned from the NBA and relegated to European basketball for the rest of his life.

Is this serious or are you kidding?

If the NBA creates a rule where you are banned from the NBA for rejecting a team's offer, why wouldn't every team offer incredibly low deals? And wouldn't the majority of players leave to play in other leagues?

He didn't reject the team's deal - he just didn't get picked by the team he was hoping to get picked by.That kind of crap doesn't cut it with me. If you get an opportunity to make millions of dollars to play a great game, you take it.

Agreed that I'd take the deal, but "banning him for life" would set a precedent that whoever does something that we feel they shouldn't have, they get the boot. Too subjective.

I guarantee if they banned Rubio that we wouldn't have this problem in the future :thumb:

There is a lot more this than he just didn't want to play for them. That is part of it but there is more going on as well.

He has to buy out his contract to play in the NBA and the wolves can only pay 500,000 of that.

Does anybody remember a QB by the name of John Elway that didn't want to get picked by the Colts?

Plus I think he might not be ready yet and maybe he realized it. If he waits another year he will be a little more polished. If he goes into the NBA next year he will be 24 when he is able to be a FA and will be looking to get a large payday in the prime of his career. I honestly think the buyout is the biggest issue. What does he have to gain if he has pay it all back and is only making 3 mil this year. Might as well stay over there for another year.

Plus there are numerous picks each year that stay in the leagues overseas to get more seasoning before coming over to the NBA. Rubio is getting more press because he was a lottery pick. It is very common for late 1st round picks or 2nd round picks to stay a couple of years over there before coming over.

Spoken like a "fan" who will never have the opportunity to have options on which team's million dollar offer to take.

Irrational but , again, spoken like a fan.

If you enter the NBA Draft and you are selected, there shouldn't be an option to go elsewhere without consequence. If you enter the draft, are a lottery pick and get offered millions of dollars - you need to take the deal.

If he wanted to stay in Europe, he didn't need to be in the NBA Draft. That's my opinion and it's not really from a "fan". I'm really not that big of an NBA fan at all.
