Requiem for a dream

FWIW, I've always wanted to see this, and I went ahead and bought it for $2 today (God Bless Craigslist) so I'll get around to it soon.

Make sure you aren't depressed before you begin.

If you are going to totally bomb them it will probably get you in the right mood!

Thanks for bringing this up, I was trying to figure out what to watch tonight and this could be the one.

After listening to the new 30 Seconds to Mars CD nonstop this week, I'm in a Jared Leto state of mind.

Yeah, that will really boost morale.

What level of education do you believe it should be shown in? Anything below college and you have a firestorm on your hands.

How do you feel about Trainspotting?

I can't get my wife to watch this movie. After telling her how disturbing it was, she refuses.

Tell her you were just kidding and it's a happy feel-good romantic comedy where Harry chases Marion's plane down the runway during the last scene until she sees him, somehow convinces the pilot to stop the plane, and gets off to run into his arms where they live happily ever after.

I mean... The ending isn't that far from that... Right? :idunno::sssh:

That pretty much sums it up except for the heroin, uppers, and private sex shows.

I have a few good buddies of mine who were film majors in college. We got into a discussion about depressing movies one evening over summer break 4 or 5 years back and we decided to have a five-night, two-movies-each-night depressing movie marathon. We watched:

Trainspotting

Full Metal Jacket

Requiem For A Dream

Blow

City Of God

Schindler's List

21 Grams

Mystic River

Million Dollar Baby

The Deer Hunter

If I recall correctly, the following weekend involved heavy drinking. Then the next week most of us took part in a "favorite childhood movies" marathon. Mary Poppins and a spoonful of sugar beats the heck out of a spoonful of heroin.

I cannot talk about this movie enough. Easily the best movie of this decade.

It's utterly eye-opening.

The two I bolded are two I recommend over and over and over....just can't seem to get anyone as enthused about them as I am. Mystic River may well be my favorite drama of all time.
