No one needs to junp ship from the KC team, they are young and Huge. Coach Mills has a great staff and they will win their games and compete in all of them. One of the biggest teams I've seen in high school, in the mountains.

I don't have the numbers, but Wardrup was impressive.

 

KC had some big kids. I was really impressed with Barger and the Canady boys. Young, but developing into big playmakers.

#24 is a great back, both Canady's and their O-line is really good.

Wardrup got MVP, I don't know any stats but he had 1 touchdown called back and I believe he scored 2 on the night, he kept pounding and pounding.

Most of those Canaday's have been fast. I sure hope they have lost a step when they play us in a few weeks.

 

I am still impressed with NL and Coach Larkey how he has his team hungry and believing that can beat anybody and are 2-0 congrats to him and good luck rest of the season.

The game that turned the game was the 95 yard interception return for a TD by Shears with :04 left in the 3rd quarter. Barger was trying to make a play, and the ball floated on him. Shears picked it at the 5 and went the distance. #4 for KC did a great job in making up ground, but there was noone between Shears and the goal line but a lot of green. KC was up 21-13 and knocking on the door. If they score, they go up 28-13 and make it an uphill climb for the Jags. Instead. NL gets the pick 6 and Wardrup gets the 2 point conversion and the game is tied at 21 each. That was a 14 point swing and a HUGE momentum boost for the Jags. After that play, I believed the Jags would pull it out. The first two weeks, they have had various players making big plays when they needed them the most against solid opponents.

 

Merida ran the ball hard for the Panthers. He has to learn to keep a better handle on it, but I like how he ran. The Barger kid is going to be a bigtime player for KC. Mark it down. Good arm and pretty good footwork. He also believes he can make the plays. I would rather have a kid who believes he can make the plays than one who doesn't. He will just get better.

When I looked at NL's schedule, I honestly predicted 0-2 at this point. I thought it would take longer for these Jags to find their stride. I still don't think they have hit it yet, but am impressed with where there are right now. I thought if they could just be competitive in the first 2 games against tough competition, it would be up to Larkey to find a way to convince his team that they could win going into the SL game, with Corbin to follow. Now, I believe they have a really good shot at having a very special season. They just have to find a way to keep their focus and intensity and realize that they will not be able to sneak up on anyone this year. They have sent a message that they are a better team, and noone on their schedule will overlook them now.

 

They still have some tough games to go, ... South Laurel in the crosstown showdown, ... at Corbin, Clay, Perry, at Harlan Co, at Whitley, at Letcher, the close with Jackson County. Only 1 or 2 games they would be heavily favored in and the rest are crucial games, many on the road, that they will be underdogs or that would be considered a tossup. They will have to continue to improve if they want to get into the playoffs and get a good seed as well.

Many were touting this KC bunch as the best in school history. Granted KC does not have a rich history in football. They seem to have alot of talent on the roster but have yet to get things lined out.

 

Losing kids like Corey Smith, who I would guess provided a lot of determination and leadership may take a little while to replace. Knox Central will be fine if they don't hang their heads or start pointing fingers.

Losing the Corey Smith is hard to replace. But give them until district time and they will be fine. They are getting things in order.

Nice start for the Jags. Two wins over two quality teams.

I was at the game tonight and I was very impressed with a lot of things - I've watched North Laurel football since the beginning and this is the first time since Mike Harville was coaching Jason Kennedy, Brian Durham, Kevin Smith and a host of other players that a North Laurel team never believes they are out of a game.

The hiring of Chris Larkey will go down as one of the biggest in a long time at North Laurel.

He shows emotion and in return, the kids run through a wall for the guy. He's a class act and a winner. I know it's only two games, but he has turned the program around quickly, and the hard work like coaches such as Carloftis has put in at the middle school level is paying off.

 

Don't think Knox Central's season is over. They are a huge team and will only get better. If they punch the ball in at the end of the third quarter, they win. But that's why they play the game. North Laurel teams in the past would have folded when facing a first and goal situation and trailing, but not this year's team.

 

Wardrup had 157 yards rushing and North finished with 289 total yards.

 

Fugate completed all six of his passes for 63 yards and a score. He also ran for a TD.

 

Central's Barger is going to be a stud. He completed 16-of-22 pass attempts for 147 yards and merida ran for 148 yards and two scores.
