Getting back into shape

Featured Replies

So I've taken a couple of months off from exercising and my body is seeing the effects of that. I was in pretty good shape about 2 months ago...but since I quit doing kickboxing and BJJ I've gained some weight and gotten badly out of shape. My cardio was doing very well before I quit, but now I could probably barely run a mile or 2 without passing out from exhaustion.

So tomorrow I'm going to go run a mile at the track, among other exercises geared towards conditioning and getting back into decent shape. For now it will be mostly running, pushups, situps, and eating healthy. But eventually I'm going to get back into gym, because there is no workout like an hour of hard core muay thai. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it. It's killer!

The reason I posted this here is so you all can hold me to it. If I haven't done it tomorrow by 6 P.M...I'm going to need you all to let me hear about it.

What are your thoughts on the Insanity workout video?

I def need to get back in shape...good luck hb20

I did the same thing - let myself go during the summer and stayed out of the gym; I am so aggravated now that I have essentially built an entire home gym and will be working out like mad every day until I get back down to the weight I want to be at. We can be each other's support team!

I've been busting it pretty hard in the gym myself, I was at 207. I'm around 198, goal is to get down to 185 by Oct 1st.

Ive been trying to get back into shape but seems like after everytime I lift Im so sore it takes about a week to recover so Ive only been working out about once a week at the moment.

I am working out at the health center at NKU a lot this year, and trying to lose some weight.

Gotta lift through the soreness...or at least try.

It's better to work through it based on my experience.

I'm with you guys. I was just thinking today I am going to start running. I've got meetings next week in Knoxville then after that it's on. I was doing great with the P90X about 6 weeks in doing the 2 a days but reaggrevated an old muscle in the back injury from high school sports days. I'm going to run but have had a lot of problems in the past with shin splints. Any ideas?

Ice and ibuprofen .

And try some really good running shoes if you can afford it.

I AM in shape..."round" is a shape....

Perhaps it is because I am in college and still young, but I feel for you guys that have trouble staying in shape. I'm fortunate enough that I never feel too badly about my physical condition. Good luck to all of you.

I'm 23 years old, I'm not so bad out of shape that I feel awful about myself.

But that doesn't mean I'm where I want to be physically. This is probably the same for most people here. We have goals we want to reach physically, that doesn't mean we have trouble staying in shape. If you don't work out, you don't stay in shape...it doesn't matter who you are. I'm not talking about looks, I'm talking about conditioning.

Ran a little and did some push ups today. Starting slow...

My weight didn't really catch up with me till I was 23-24. I managed to stay between 180-190 till then, then I hit 228:ohbrother:
