Don't underestimate the defense that is left. Those 3 state experienced players held many good big and small players to very low numbers last year. They are short on the size side and need some players to move up and step up.

The only team that I can think of that has a tall player, over 6 ft. , is Anderson unless I am missing someone else. South has a few that are 5'10 or so. Lape from Oldham is 5'8?? I am just not sure if size will play a part this year IMO. Guard pressure may be enough to win the whole thing.

Just because their isn't a lot of big posts to deal with doesn't mean that size won't be a factor. Simon pushes the ball to the side and rotates over to trap/help. Without the size that rotation won't be nearly as effective.

I believe Walton-Verona may have a player over 6 feet tall. Other than that it seems that we have many 5'9" and 5' 10" players. I think Defense will be the key this year also.

I'm withholding my rankings until 1) football season is over and 2) I have gathered all my preseason info...

I guess i was thinking more from an offensive perspective. i can see what you are saying though, especially for a trapping defense, but the physical nature/style of their players can be intimidating enough for most opponents. I am not confident that it will matter as much as you think it will. I think this year may be more about guard play IMO.

And this year the task will be made even more difficult to unseat the defending champ by virtue of Simon Kenton hosting the tourney. Don't anyone be fooled, SK is very capable of making it a three-peat.

 

If - and this is a very BIG IF - anyone can beat Simon Kenton at Simon Kenton in the 8th region tourney, it surely will not be a fluke. Having said that, word has it that there are several teams that believe they can pull it off, and are lining up to give it a try.

Really?? Have you watched everyone else play? South may win it, but they weren't all that impressive in the regional tournament last year, and granted that was the only time I saw them play. I wouldn't be surprised if one of 5 or 6 teams won it. But beating Simon at Simon will not be easy.

The last defending champs to defend on their home turf lost despite being overwhelming favorites. (Shelby County) Shelby was a much bigger favorite that year than SK will be this year...

South played very very poorly in the region tournament on their home floor so I can see why you may not be impressed. Youth got the best of them last year but they are a much more mature, improved team this year- still very young with a nucleus of 5/6 sophomores that will become the best class of ball players EVER at their school in all likelihood. Simon at Simon will be tough but two years ago, South beat Shelby on their home floor and no one thought that would happen either. Anything can happen.

Whoo-ee! Whitfield has the potential to be the best player to don an SOHS girls' uniform, and the rest of that class also has a LOT of potential...but becoming the best class ever at SOHS is a tall order that will take some growing into. A very bold statement - albeit very conceivable! :thumb:

Let's not forget Ms. Jones so quickly. Whitfield has a LONG way to go before she hits that level. I like Whitfield a lot, but Jones was a really nice player.
