Coach has never dodged anyone and will play anyone who will schedule us. Most of the teams we have had through the years have battled to the end, too.

 

 

I guess that, based on an earlier post, that we can tell the kids that survive friday that they are to be commended.

 

 

One thing about it. I am sure not one of the Lynn Camp players, coaches or fans are afraid to show up and let the chips fall where they may. The worst thing that can happen is a loss.

 

Coach Mitchell has always scheduled tough opponents. He has played Corbin, Whitley, North Laurel, Rock, Somerset, Clay and many other schools instead of loading the schedule in order to get X number of wins each season. I would really like to see Coach Mitchell take one of his Lynn Camp teams to the carpet before he decides to retire. It would be a a fitting end to his successful career.

Dave has a Regional Title and 3 Regional Final apperances to his name. That's more apperances than any other tri-county team except for Corbin. That's an equal number of regional title championships for LC, KC, Whitley and Williamsburg.

 

Those that respect him/LC will do so, those that don't never will. Does not matter to David Mitchell. He'll still be there friday looking for a game.

He has had some good teams. What 3 years did he make it to regional final? Odd thing about it though he has never won a district title, 3 way tie one year or 2 years where he lost out on tie breaker.

Very True. I know LC has a talented group of 9th graders this year. With a few transfers likely on the way next year, Lynn Camp may be back in the hunt for a state Championship sooner than many think.

Them boys from Lynn Camp know how to lay on some licks. I know that sheer numbers are in Whitley's favor, but I think that LC will make it closer than most of you think. They have some big ol' linemen who might be a difference maker. The first game was just that... a first game for both teams. LC's coach will get them lined out and make more of a game out of it against a good Whitley team.

I would say it would be close......32 years of coaching....it would say he is about . 500....which is not bad considering the size of the schools he has played out of district over the years. I am sure he could have had better numbers with selective scheduling. Mitchell has never feared for his job and thus no need to pad his stats. He can survive a 2 win season. The same can not be said for very many in the area. If Lynn Camp had the facilities they have now back in the mid 80's then I am sure his record would be more impressive. It is better to try and fall short rather than not try to play the best and claim moral victories. I think Coach Mitchell has always tried to win 6 games and advance in the post season, rather than get 9 wins and be home after the first or second round. Mitchell is a legend for one reason or another.

Region Title Games were '96, '97 and the Title in '03. It may have been '96 and '98. I'm getting old and slipping a little.

We won a sub-district in the 80s. Seems like every year we have the district in our grip, something catastrophic happens. We have to be close to a state record in district runner up titles...:ohbrother: (Maybe we can trade in ten 2nd places for a 1st?)

 

Most people who rip on Dave's win/loss record forget he basically built both a team and a tradition. We were dead last in the state when he took over and were going to drop football. I think he is bellow .500, but the first 10-12 years were used to develop a program and there were fewer games when the playoffs started. Remeber that a lot of the sucessful coaches in the state are good at what they do, but stepped into established programs. David has more than 150 wins for sure.

I think Whitley has some things they can work on in this game. If Lebanion really is out, this is a great opportunity to give Inman 4 quarters of QB experience that he will need for the rest of the season. This game could be a very valuable "transition" game I suppose.

I agree. I thnk that he is out. So it will be valuable.

Whitley County played a close game with Lex Cath. This should be a Colonel win.
