The one play that comes to mind the other night was the late hit out of bounds. The Highlands receiver was a good 1 yard out of bounds when the Manual player pushed him in the back with 2 hands this after chasing him to the sidelines for about 5 yards. It was a very, very late hit. Luckily the HHS receiver wasn't hurt. He was fortunately caught by a couple of other players. If they wouldn't have been there, no telling where he would of ended up. Maybe on the track!!!!

 

Now, I know someone had mentioned that the player was taken out of the game immediately for this play but it was something that could of been avoided. My point is, it wasn't like this play was a bang,bang play and the defender didn't have time to react. That to me would be deliberately unsportsmanlike.

 

I would give the benefit of the doubt until I knew how long the Manual player had been playing...youth and inexperience are big factors at the beginning of the season. Maybe RRR would know the experience level of the player in question.

I will say this...in all the years I've watched Manual, I've not seen a Manual player be deliberately unsportsmanlike.

 

I've only watched them once and have four instances. And yes I can honestly say they were deliberate. At least two after the whistle.

 

I was just really surprised the refs didn't do more. But the game is over, Birds with the win and now it is time to move on to Birds vs. Ryle.

Like you Rockmom, I have watched alot of football. I know the difference. I'm certainly not saying that Highlands doesn't commit these types of fouls and I would not make excuses for them, I was surprised the refs let them go. Like I said earlier, the refs hear the same sportsmanship speech we all hear at the beginning of the game, just thought they should have enforced it that's all.

Lets not forget how silly this debate can be. No one wants to see cheap shots or anyone get hurt but I played football for 11 or 12 years and the biggest cheap shot artist I ever played against was on the team from Ft. Thomas. Not meaning to take a jab but everyone has a dirty player or two like Henry said games over move on to next weeks opponents.

I'm just trying to state what I know of the Manual program. I see a lot of references to those plays, which are eclipsing a lot of good things Manual did on the field that night. And I don't mind moving on. Neither are my team.

I agree! I was listening on the Internet, and after the second occurance, I just wanted to strangle that guy! :madman:

Heat of battle. They threw a flag, he was pulled, and the game went on. Not a big deal by any stretch of the imagination.

I wasn't able to attend, and I still really don't have an idea as to how the game played out, except the announcer was annoying, and there were maybe a suspect hit or two?? I would like to say I attended a game at Manuel Stadium a couple of years ago, and except for the lighting ( which I heard was improved) thought it was a classic HS football stadium.

 

Manual Stadium is one of the best I've ever seen. It was a GREAT place to watch a football game and I hope some thought is given to making this a regular series. Manual's football community is very tight-knit and relies heavily like most on alumni. I know that he may have seemed annoying to you, but the home crowd loves him.
