Does it bother anyone else when people nit pick the facts of a factually-based movie? The fire trucks were headed into town in the movie, the crash happened during the day and not night, the players didn't go to the scene, etc.

"It was a good movie except..."

Of course, this comes from the guy who doesn't watch Field of Dreams because they had Ray Liotta batting right handed

Some fact are wrong, but many are correct, even the little things, that is what makes the movie so great.

Nate Ruffin, did, in fact, go to the crash site that night, he did in fact jump in the back of a pickup truck and go. He was refused entry to the crash site, so he went around though the woods to get there. He and several players did go. Ruffin and some of the players were at the movies when the crash happened.

Fall City Beer was the name of the beer that was really requested by a player upon his arrival home before the crash.

Red Dawson was, in fact, supposed to be on the plane, and at the last minute agreed to take the recruiting trip for one of the other coaches.

And for those that didn't know, the real Red Dawson made a cameo appearance in the movie at the head coach of Morehead State in the first game after the crash.

The crash didn't happen in Huntington, it happened in Kenova, a small city outside of Huntington, where the airport is still today. The photos at the end of the movie are real scene photos, I have seen them before.

Great movie. With the exception of when it was filmed. Nightmare traffic-wise since the cemetery where the players are buried is 400yds. up the hill from my office.

Also, to add to what Ram said, a patient of mine, David Walsh who was a freshman on that team that didn't make the trip has a cameo performance as an assistant coach for the Xavier team. He's a sports writer currently.

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Are_Marshall Red wasn't suppose to be on the plane, it was Gale Parker who switched seats with Deke Brackett.

Not my all-time favorite sports move, but pretty daggone good.

My moms first love was a QB in the crash. He grew up in Louisa KY and graduated from Russell High School. Roger Vanover was his name. No crash there might not be any stick or lil stick.

It's amazing how everything in life is dependent on a million little hinges...

A tragic thing that happened and I love how finally the whole world got to know the story, from a small town .

I'm just going on what I saw in an interview with Red Dawson, when the movie came out. Maybe I misunderstood.

I really don't know one way or the other. I just happened to be reading about the crash this morning before I read your post. Wiki has definitely been known to be wrong.

I grew up in Huntington and actually went to high school with Julie Lengyl, Coach Lengyl's daughter. I also went to Marshall Lab School so this tragedy hit really close to home. Many of the people who died were parents of those I went to school with at the time. The impact of this on the community was tremendous and lasted a very long time.

Watching it as well. Great movie! It's cool to see all of Huntington in a movie when I'm only a half hour away from there.

I went to the Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe last summer, cool place.
