August 2, 200917 yr There will be drugs there. There will be alcohol there. I cannot vouch for the character of your daughter, but if she has a good head on her shoulders, she will be fine. It is not as if she is going to a Slayer concert. The majority of the people are very nice and just looking to have a good time, just like your daughter. :thumb:
August 2, 200917 yr I was starting to think I was the only one who thought DMB was awful. I'm in that boat as well... :puke:
August 2, 200917 yr I would be most concerned about the amount of stale, unoriginal and mostly bad music they would be subjected to.:lol::lol:stop it your making my belly hurt...

August 2, 200917 yr After much deliberation, I am allowing my 17 yo daughter to attend a Dave Mathews Band concert and camp at Deer Creek in Indy with a group of friends whom I know well and trust. Curious if anyone has been there and thinks I'm a complete idiot? The group as a whole is fairly mature, good students/kids, etc, no 'troubled teens' to date, and my kid is really a pretty mature, smart kid so far...but....I'll let you all 'let me have it'.... :idunno: Just looking at this thread. A. How did it go? B. I figured with your user name, this wouldn't be a big deal.
August 4, 200917 yr Author Just looking at this thread. A. How did it go? B. I figured with your user name, this wouldn't be a big deal. It went fine. Nothing really to report, fortunately. Some steady texting every 4 or 5 hours that kept me posted. The area they camped was not as crowded as others and the partying was apparently pretty calm, though they did have a great time. There was another group there, by coincidence, whom we know. A dad with his teenage kids and friends, so that was a bonus having a back up near by. She looked like she was camping at a concert for two days, but other than that, I guess they stayed adequately within tolerable limits. The user name originated more from a sports point of view, not so much 'let the party-ers play'.... anyway, she seems to have passed this small test ... I'm sure there's more I don't know, but I know enough to feel okay with letting her "spread her wings". Thanks all!
August 4, 200917 yr If you are going to let her go, why not consider paying for a limousine service? Get someone you know will look after her, particularly when driving? The limo is an interesting decision, but one that would work well. I'm not a parent, but my main concern wouldn't be the drugs or alcohol. 17 & at a concert, they're going to do what they want. That's where the previous 17 years of parenting kicks in. Also check all their bags and the vehicle before they leave town, they might get ticked about it but it's for their own good. Check pillows too many people got alcohol on our senior trip cutting pillows open with a knife putting alcohol in the pillow then pillow back in the pillow case. Sounds a little extreme to me. She's 17 & by all accounts she's a trustworthy kid. Though you didnt ask the opinion of older adults..... I have a 17, 19 and 20 year old and have been in your position. I have never been the overprotective sort of parent. Like most parents, I have tried to raise my children to be aware of the real world and responsible in dealing with it. For what it is worth... Your daughter is 17 and is with a group (very important) that you trust. Hopefully they all have cell phones. Your daughter is 17 and undoubtedly knows more about what is going to go on at the concert than you do. Your daughter is 17 and will likely go away to college next year where you will (trust me) have no idea what she is doing. I say you have to let those baby birds fly a bit before they take off. This would be a good opportunity. That being said, a friendly, nonjudgemental reminder of your concerns should proceed the event with an offer to come, no questions asked, if she calls. Good Luck! Let us know how it goes! Great post, BWFan! :thumb: I don't like them or dislike them...Just don't listen to them...:thumb: A DMB Concert is always a blast, whether or not you like the music. In all honesty, it sounds like you're biggest problem is realizing that she's growing up, not with the concert itself. Completely understandable. The main thing to worry about at a Dave concert is the amount of "weed" that is smoked, and all things considered, that's really not that worrisome IMO. The marijuana is not nearly as big of an issue as the amount of alcohol that is consumed prior to, during, and after the concert. Not even close.
