TrueBlueWildcat Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4353256 The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. I like this move for the Cardinals. I believe Holliday will be better in the NL but still not the player he was at Coors Field.
TrueBlueWildcat Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Surprised he was traded before next week.
halfback20 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 They got a good hitter if he can get anywhere near as good as he used to be.
westsider Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Holliday's production this year is about what should have been expected as he got away from Coors Field, and it's certainly good enough to give the Cardinals' offense a spark. The jury is out on Wallace, who may not be able to play a passable third base in the majors ... he's more likely to be a first baseman down the road. And since the other prospects are nothing special, it's a good deal for the Cardinals. This may be the deal that puts them over the top in the NL Central.
woodsrider Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Holliday make more then Pujols.
cooperstown Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Must be fun to be a fan of a team that is adding meaningful talent at the trade deadline in the hopes of bettering their playoff run. :irked:
westsider Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Meet the favorites in the NL IMOIn the NL Central? Yes. In the entire league? No. And remember, we still have a week to go before the trading deadline. Something tells me the Phillies and Dodgers, among others, will be busy.
TrueBlueWildcat Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 I'm not a big fan of Brett Wallace, I see potential but not the player some are making him out to be.
KyTiger89 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 In the NL Central? Yes. In the entire league? No. And remember, we still have a week to go before the trading deadline. Something tells me the Phillies and Dodgers, among others, will be busy. In the NL Central? Absolutely no doubt In the NL? I still say yes. Adding a bat like Holliday, who has been red hot as of late, will do wonders for this club. Now if another NL team like the Phillies or Dodgers acquires Halladay, then I believe that makes them the favorites hands down.
cch5432 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Anyone know the odds on STL going to World Series? I'd take them for sure....I don't see anyone in the NL beating them now. Has Pujols had a hitter this good with him in the lineup?

Has Pujols had a hitter this good with him in the lineup? Exactly. Put Holliday behind him, see how many IBB he will get then. His stats will be unreal (even more than they usually are).

Do you really think the Reds meet that criteria?
woodsrider Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 If Holliday stays hot, DeRosa can stay hot, and Ludwick picks it back up no reason the Cardinals shouldn't win the central going away and make a serious run at the WS.
