The best car out there? The one with no payment. I hope to drive our vehicles to about 500,000 miles and use that car payment money for something else.

I think overall they do. The American made cars have definitely come along way in quality.

Since Ford is doing well and refused a lot of the government money, does it prove that the taxpayer-money given to Chrysler and GM was unneccessary? I say yes, and the Obama administration should be held responsible for wasting the taxpayer money. I'm actually surprised that Ford has bounced back, because even the prospect of a bailout creates a moral hazard for the company (IMO).

 

Either way, though, I think it is far-fetched that Ford will be specifically targeted by the government for doing well. Anything is possible but I find that very unlikely, and backed up by as many facts as any conspiracy theory.

Remember, GWB signed the bill that made the loans law, not BHO. Obama has simply enforced the stipulations of the loans.

 

Bush could have stopped this from happening until after Obama took office, or at least could have forced Congress to override his veto, but he didn't. As far as I'm concerned, the nationalization of GM is on George.

 

Ford's loss will be the lucrative government fleet contracts. Why buy vehicles from private auto and truck makers, when you own one in Government Motors. (If they don't use GM, I'm going to scream bloody murder. That's just peeing the tax money away.) I think Ford knows this and has settled for a smaller market that may not make them what they once were, but will keep their bottom line in the black. That's sound business. :thumb:

Ford makes a pretty good product but let's not get carried away.

You never asked me. I don't trust any mag like that. Their opinions can be bought and most of the time are.

My personal exerience is I've had a Ford that the air conditioning, compressor, etc went out at about 37 months and 18k miles. I've had a Toyota for about 6 years and 100k miles and haven't done anything to it but routine maintenance
