Very proud of DSAS. They are now flying on out to the LA tourney. Very proud of the Ind. Elite team. For both of these team to make it as far as they did is a huge accomplishment.

 

There will be NO FINAL game. Ind. Elite has to forfeit the game. The final game had been pushed back and the Ind. Elite team could not get their plane tickets rescheduled. THey are flying back to Ind, and not going on to LA. If the DSAS team had won they would have been facing the same thing as they are scheduled to fly out of Vegas at 5:30 Vegas time. The final game was to start at 5:00. Why the game was pushed back I don't know...bad management.

The 16s final was a forfeit. Southern Kings from outside of Atlanta won the title when the Team Indiana/Indiana Elite team had to leave because of travel arrangements for another event. The Kings are a loaded bunch. Milton (Ga.) guard Shannon Scott was named MVP, while I love his high school teammate Dai-jon Parker. The team has a number of potential high-major players and drew a lot of attention this week. Kentucky coaches were seen watching the team several times.

 

The Indiana Elite team won a game in overtime against the D-Harris All-Stars as Muncie (Ind.) Central guard Jeremiah Davis poured in 23 points. Clark County's Vinny Zollo had 12 points and the team won the semifinal without guard Dee Davis, who was playing with his high school team - Bloomington South - in another event.

 

The Derek Smith All-Stars dropped a 71-68 decision to the Southern Kings in the semifinals of the 16s. Eastern's Remy Abell had 26 points in the title game, while Warren Central's George Fant had 12 points and 12 rebounds and Clark County's Robbie Stenzel added 10 points. Also solid game by Warren Central's Jordan Shanklin.

 

A lot of the college coaches were watching the Derek Smith kids this week. One coach commented, "this team has a lot of guys that can go either way." Translation, depending on how they grow the team has some kids that can make it to mid-major plus (or higher) or they could fall the other way. The 16s are now headed to Los Angeles.

 

Warren Central's George Fant said he's added an offer from Ohio University to his list that also includes Oklahoma State and Western Kentucky.

With the decreased evaluation period, more teams are playing back to back and timing is key. Congrats to Indy Elite anyway.

I agree, very poor management. You play hard, knock off some very good teams only to have to forfeit the finals? Unreal. Had DSAS won then both them and Ind. Elite had travel problems. If neither team could show up then what???? Forfeit to both teams?

 

I was told that neither, Southwest Airlines and the tournament adm, was very cooperative.

The times of the tourney games were set long ago, it's not the tourney, it's the teams. Even if the games were as bit late, which they were not, the teams have to plan on a possible short delay due to longer than expected games earlier in the day. The teams want to leave early and do not plan ahead if they advance deep in the tourney, they want to leave early to avoid paying extra fees for hotels, and even an hour late over a 24 hour period will cost you a full day on renting a vehicle. Most vans start out at about an extra $100 per day, they want to avoid this extra cost. Teams trying to save money (which is fine) and trying to leave town early is the issue.
