I love to hear to hear that E Justice performed well in front of that many college coaches. This kid has worked his tail off since the end of last season.

Seneca's Deonte Maddox hit a shot with about seven seconds left and the Derek Smith All-Stars 17s West team claimed a one-point victory over SBA Rebels Inland. Maddox really played well, getting to the rack a number of times on drives down the right side of the lane. Manual's Sean Samsel hit a huge three-pointer late in the game.

 

Other Derek Smith teams had success. The 16s won their first round game by 40-plus points and are rolling at 4-0, while the 15s team also won its first game and has to play Kansas City Pump n Run. A win could set up a meeting with the Indiana Elite/Team Indiana squad in the 15s. A matchup at point between Trinity's Charles Foster and ex-Trinity player Chris Harrison would be fun to see. The 16s will play a team from Arizona and then could meet Ohio Basketball Club and Aaron Cosby.

My favorite quote from Demling is "Scott County's Ge'Lawn Guyn and Indiana Elite-Fox keep playing solid, beating a team from California in the first round of the tournament. I saw much of the first half and like I said last night, Guyn is playing like the best senior in Kentucky." No disrespect to Johnson or Pittman but Gelawn is the best player in the state and is proving it on the bigger stages. I believe he will be the most recruited player in the state this year.

The D.S. I6 won this afternoon beating a good Arizona Premier Black winning by 3 points.Stenzel played well hitting a couple of 3's and made some good moves to the basket winding up in double figures in scoring.They play D.C.ASSAULT about 6 oclock our time this afternoon

Indiana Elite won their 3rd game today. They were down 17 at the half and came back and won by 1. Zollo had 19 points and 12 rebounds.

If it's the Southern Kings top level 16U team the Derek Smith team has a very tall hill to climb. There are at least 5 very high major D1 kids on that squad, and they have shown very well at some major events. D-Harris also has a very talented squad and will give Vinny and the boys fits. The 'Ville team is playing for the championship of the 14 & under division in the adidas Super 64 Showcase on Sunday against the Houston Select program. The 'Ville won the quarterfinal game in overtime over Dreamvision as Montgomery County freshman-to-be Omar Prewitt scored 25 points to lead the way. In the semifinals later tonight, Darryl Hicks scored a bucket with 5 seconds left and James Quick stole the inbounds pass to seal a 72-71 victory over the Playaz Basketball Club.Prewitt also played well in the semifinals and is going to be a really solid player. He's the son of former University of Kentucky women's great Lea Wise-Prewitt

 

The Derek Smith 16s team is still alive in the 16s Division of the adidas event, winning three games on Saturday. The Derek Smith team - playing in front of Nolan Smith - upended the Michigan Mustangs after losing to the same team in the Kentucky Hoopfest. They'll now play the loaded Southern Kings Gold team with atleast four and maybe five high-major Division I players. Eastern's Remy Abell played well all day for Derek Smith and is drawing some new college attention. Elliott County's Timmy Knipp hit some big three-pointers, while Warren Central's Jordan Shanklin had a big second game today and Clark County's Robbie Stenzel and Warren Central's George Fant are solid as usual.

 

The Indiana Elite/Team Indiana squad is also in the semifinals of the 16s division at the Super 64 after a big day from Hamilton Heights' Austin Etherington and Muncie Central's Jeremiah Davis. Both are playing at a very high level. Solid efforts from Warsaw's Nic Moore, foreign exchanger Cheir Ajou and Clark County's Vinny Zollo.

 

One in-state player I have fielded maybe the most questions about from college coaches - Mason County's Treg Setty. He's opened a lot of eyes this week.
