born2reign Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4348069 "The Pittsburgh Pirates traded first baseman Adam LaRoche to the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. The Pirates will receive minor league shortstop Argenis Diaz and one other prospect in return for LaRoche, Foxsports.com reported." They have been looking for a bat...may be the best that can be had in this market.
KyTiger89 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 When I first heard about this trade, I didnt really like it for the Sox. However, as I look up more and more about LaRoche, the more I love this deal for Boston. In the past 3 years after the all star break, he has hit for 41 HR, 127 RBI, and a .314 BA. They can use LaRoche/Youk against RHP and Lowell/Youk against LHP. If you take a look at Epstein and his past acquisitions, its hard to really doubt the guy IMO. The "washed up" Timlin and Schilling...Not bad The "throw in" Lowell...Not bad The trading away of Nomah and picking up O-Cab, Doug Men, etc...Not bad The trading away of Manny for Jason Bay who's "never been to the playoffs"...Not bad thus far Their pick ups are never "huge", but they always seem to me the right moves to make.

I agree with this...in talking to my Red Sox buddies, however, they would like to see Boston get a lead-off guy that can consistently get on. Again, this is a tough market and this may be the best move for a bat out there for Boston without sacrificing a young arm.

Right, the market is ridiculous right now considering there are so many "buyers" this year, or teams on the fence, so in order to get someone with talent, you have to give up a ton. I'd rather keep Bowden, Buchholz, Tazawa, etc.

There aren't many out there anymore.
westsider Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Decent, low-cost acquistion for the Red Sox ... if LaRoche gets on a hot streak, the deal will be well worth it.
sweet16 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Why? They might get Bryce Harper haha Nationals will draft him but won't sign him. LOL
AverageJoesGym Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I'd say this is a sign that Lowell's hip is still bothering him and the Sox are going to have to give him regular off days the rest of the year.
dolamite Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I would hate to be a Pirates fan... Im surprised Jack Wilson is still around. They have gotten rid of every other good player they have ever had. Wonder why they have kept him along for the miserable ride?

Pancake Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I would hate to be a Pirates fan... It sucks... I don't even watch baseball anymore...
dolamite Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I don't know what is worst. Being a Pirates fan and watching your team suck all the time and then trade off your best players for nothing in return. Or being the Cubs fan that I am when they are normally a pretty solid team, that cannot win anything.
threetimelover Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Because he can't hit and has a big contract. I'm surprised the Cubs don't sign him...:ohbrother::lol:
