Several of my students have resorted to stealing and robbery to support their marijuana habit. They got into a lifestyle in which they thought that marijuana was their answer to handling issues in life.

 

I have seen them rob the money to pay the rent for their home to buy pot.

 

I know, I know I am going to hear over and over that pot is not addictive but I say a mental addiction is as strong and more lasting than a physical addiction.

 

I have also seen many teens, both ones that I went to school with and ones that I have taught, that have got to the point that pot does not provide them with the high that it once did and they move onto harder and more dangerous drugs.

I have a hard time believing they're stealing to pay for just a pot habit. Most potheads I've known just do without or go to a buddy's house who has some. Pot is not a drug that lends itself to extreme behavior.

 

The behavior you're talking about is that of someone hooked to meth and other hard stuff. They may say they were stealing to buy pot, but I doubt that's what they were getting.

The overwhelming theme of everything Gatewood has ever said, written, or thought about has been the protection of individual rights and civil liberties. Gatewood supports a reduction of taxes and less power at the federal level. Furthermore he is an ardent supporter of 2nd amendment rights.

I'm guessing that your students are under 21...If marijuana were legal and you had to be at least 21 to buy it...Wouldn't it be somewhat a little harder for minors to get?Plus I would think it would be alot cheaper...So maybe that would mean a little less Robberies...Maybe not...
