July 21, 200917 yr My guess is that he knew (or had a good feeling) he wasn't going to be the one chosen so rather than waiting he could bow out first. Either that or now that they are getting down to the negotiation stage they may not have been willing to give him what it took in salary, scholarships, asst. coaches, etc.

July 21, 200917 yr Author I just talked to a guy that runs a site in Florida. He says the job is going to be offered to Stinnett and Osborne was either told or saw the writing on the wall.

I don't think they are in a position to do much "persuading". I was told a part of the reason Happy was looking to leave was that the administration has threatened to cut an assistant coaching position.
July 21, 200917 yr The assistant coaching position was cut last year. Happy raised the money to keep the position. So, G-town is struggling like a lot of small schools financially.

Almost no NAIA schools have 2 assistants, some don't have any full time assitants. And Happy's salary is likely the highest in the NAIA and DII (he earns into six figures), and his compensation is higher than some DI jobs. Georgetown is struggling financially, because they've lived beyond their means for many years. They were in money trouble far before the current economic difficulties. However the cuts to the basketball program still leave it one of the best funded in NAIA or DII. Happy has definately has done a good job, but let's be honest. Give any decent coach the location and resources that he has enjoyed and they would be successful too. I'm sure that's the conclusion that the other schools to which he has been applying but hasn't gotten offers have come to!

It's not something "any decent coach" could do.
