Baseball's most popular, and least popular managers.

Could that have hid his shortcomings over the years?

Doubt it.

That trio could hide a lot of shortcomings for any team, but when a team wins 14 consecutive division championships, the manager is doing something right.

It's a lot harder when you can't leave Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine out there for 8 or 9 innings.

Very true...

I believe Jurrjens could have went for a CG last night but he was pulled after 7 innings, I just don't get some of the moves, the bullpen is way overused.

Of course players want to play for him. They know that if they're doing awful (Kelly Johnson and Jeff Francouer) their job will be safe for a pretty good while anyways.

Jurrjens had around 95 pitches after 7 innings, he needed to be pulled. There was no reason to keep him in, the no hitter and the shutout were gone.

95 pitches isn't horrible and when your bullpen is overused and the score is 11-1 then it may be okay to use him for 6 more outs.

Johnson has been pretty good the last two years, so give him a break. Francoeur has shown no progress at all since his rookie year.

How much of Francoeur's place in the lineup is Cox, and how much of it is the front office? It isn't like the Braves have a well-stocked outfield.

When your up 11-1 why would you risk getting him hurt? Medlen and Acosta haven't been over used at all. They needed some time in a game.

Francoeur's rookie season was a good one, but the two after that were much better. His 2nd and 3rd seasons he had around 29 and 19 homers in each, with over 100 rbi's in each. Last season is when he started to play awful.

Oh and Francoeur had a .293 batting average in 2007 too.

Kelly Johnson has never hit over 70 RBI's in one season. His batting average has never finished over .287 either (last year was his career best for batting average).

But he has been flat out awful this year. He has been much worse than Francoeur actually imo. KJ is batting .215 right now. That's not acceptable. Thank God for Martin Prado.

I've always said that the least likely baseball record to be broken involves the number 50. The number of consecutive years that Connie Mack managed the same club.

Medlen and Acosta needed those innings WAAAAAAY more then Jurrjens. Sorry, Bobby Cox is still the best manager in the business...I hope he Manages for 3 or 4 more years.

If you look at the triple crown stats, Francoeur's first three seasons look good.

But they really weren't. Francoeur's inability to get on base undermines the rest of his game.

Kelly Johnson has never hit over 70 RBI's in one season.
He's hit in the 1 and 2 spots for much of the last two years ... and you're going to hold his RBI totals against him?

He also scored 91 and 86 runs the last two years, too ... that has to count for something.

His batting average has never finished over .287 either (last year was his career best for batting average).
His OBP (more important stat) has clearly outclassed Francoeur the last two seasons.

But he has been flat out awful this year. He has been much worse than Francoeur actually imo.
Even now, he has a higher OPS than Francoeur ... at a position where offense isn't as high a standard. And his defense has been fine, at a more important defensive position.

Francoeur has been more of a drain on the Braves than Johnson has, and that's been true for the last 2 1/2 seasons.

If the Braves want to give him away, as you might be inclined to do, send him to the Cubs ... he's be an upgrade there.

If the Braves could get something out of him, I'd be very happy. Prado has taken his job anyways.

Fire Cox?

No way.......fire the new GM and find some owners that will spend some money...........

I don't know where people are getting this but I never once said to fire Bobby Cox, simply said it's about time for him to retire..
