He's done a far better job than any of the previous guys, so yeah, I think he does have something to do with it.

 

He is included the list of "previous guys" who led them to miserable finishes - .457 winning percentage and 5th place finish last year - not much/any better than any of his immediate predecessors.

I'm not saying I agree with the decision, but to say he hasn't played a part in them being "more competitive than they have been the past 5-6 years" (is that better?) is hilarious.

 

The problem is that the Reds are still a .500 team. They're competitive because the Brew Crew has no pitching and for whatever reason the Cards haven't kicked it in yet.

 

The jury is still out IMO on Dusty.

Dusty is doing better than the managers of past. There isn't much difference in Hernandez and Hannigan. They are both good hitters, not really a drop off either way.

Hernandez seems to be a much more capable run producer and Hanigan has the superior average.
