June 11, 200917 yr Maybe the term "eradicate" is too strong and carries the wrong impression. The statement: "I would like all persons of any faith, Muslim included, to come to the saving knowledge of Christ," would be easier and more accurate. The first statement conjures up the visions of the Crusades, Inter-faith conflicts of Europe (see the Hougounots, Ana-Baptists, Catholics and Anglicans), and even the Inquisition. Conversion by death or coersion. Jesus may compel, implore and direct by Coersion is not what I see Him doing. I agree. I was just making a point. Eradicate does bring to mind more aggressive tactics. The reality is, as Christian, we want everyone to come to salvation through Christ. That, by default, means the end of all religions. But, that end is achieved not through acts of aggression, but through service and witness of God's love.
June 11, 200917 yr While I believe Allah and Yahweh/Cristos God are different - they do have much in shared religious history. The most obvious is the Abraham story. The first born of Abraham was Ishmael and God chose to save he and his mother Haggar from death. (re Genesis) The first born of the Promise of God (as Judeo and Christian Scholars view it) is Issac. Centuries later the Arab/Muslim world believed their lineage went back to Ishmael and that would make these two branches very close. However I believe that the Allah that Muhammad created was just that, his creation and not reflective of the God the real Abraham followed. Just my take. :thumb: :thumb: I agree.
June 11, 200917 yr I would call your "truth" stereotyping. Stereotyping? In what way? Do you deny that a large portion of the "peaceful" contingent of Islam refuses to condemn the fanatical terrorists in their religion? They don't get it both ways. At least not with me. They can't say out of one side of their mouth, "We are a peaceful religion. The terrorists have hijacked our relgion." And, then out of the other sympathize with terrorists and refuse to condemn their actions. They may not be committing acts of terrorism themselves, but by sympathizing and refusing to condemn them, they are silenty supporting it. Again, that's not a stereotype. That's what I see. I don't run and hide or fear for my life when I see an Arab. I realize the violent numbers in their population are a relatively small percentage. (Not to mention the majority of them are in the Middle East.) I'm just not willing to give them a free pass. I sure wouldn't sympathize with people who were "hijacking my religion". As christians, we should want non-believers to find their way to God. However, I think that there are some that prefer eradication to mean the ending of lives. :thumb: I agree. And, I know that's what you meant by the initial question and use of the word eradication. I was just making a point. I'd like to see it eradicated by the spread of the gospel, not by death. By peace and not the sword. What we should want, as Christians, is for everyone to attain heaven and eternal life. Killing a person is the one way to assure that that goal is never reached. For the record, I'm not interested the least bit in "blowing them off the map".
June 11, 200917 yr Would it be anti-christian to say that I hope that no matter what religion someone chooses that it gives them peace of mind and happiness? Not really, I suppose. I'm not going to beat someone over the head with a stick to get them to accept Christ. My advice has always been simple. The only way to God (and heaven and eternal life) is through Christ. If you reject that, then do whatever makes you the happiest in life, because the end result of all other paths is the same.
June 11, 200917 yr Uh, technically yeah. According to true Christian doctrine there's only one way to have true peace of mind and happiness and to suggest otherwise would be comprimising the teachings of Jesus Christ. If someone is happy then who I am to try to correct them? What more could you want out of any religion than happiness on earth? Heaven, paradise, Nirvana it's all just a reward that we have faith in but cannot know with 100% certainty exist. If someone wants to talk about Jesus I will talk to them. It's really up to each individual to decide which religion is right for them. What if by some chance the Muslims are the ones with the correct religion at the end?

June 29, 200917 yr No religion is completely true, all of the 3 we are talking about have been disstorted by man. Look at all the different verisions of Christianity here in the U.S.
June 30, 200917 yr [/b] do you think they are? I don't think any branch of religion has it completely right, so could they be the most right, it's possible. Who am I to say that they aren't?

June 30, 200917 yr ^^^I agree with these posters 100%. Just look at the Bible and you can find how MAN has changed many issues. Pick and Choosers is what I call them. My church has no Elders we have Deacons. Divorced man cannot be a Deacon, but can be a Pastor :idunno: Some churches are against Musical Instruments in worship. Some observe the Lord's Supper every service. Some ask forgiveness to a man not Jesus as told to by Jesus. Some pray to Saints not Jesus. I have more.
June 30, 200917 yr Author Some observe the Lord's Supper every service. Some ask forgiveness to a man not Jesus as told to by Jesus. Some pray to Saints not Jesus. Now I wonder who "some" represents here? Unbelievable!
June 30, 200917 yr The Church of Christ/Disciples of Christ/The Christian Church (Southeast) do the Lord's Supper every main service where as the Baptist when they feel like it. The Catholics prays with their Father/Saints of their parrish unto Jesus. So "Unbelieveable" I knock on the Baptist Church 3 times and refer to the Christian Churches and the Catholic once. So what gives with your comment? Study more and you will see where the thread was referring to "Man" things that changes from the Bible.

I can't really comprehend what you just wrote, but all I know is that the three things that I quoted are common grievances against the Catholic Church, which have been espoused by you before, and which I believe we have tried to explain and justify.
