June 3, 200917 yr I will never replace Kobe with Jordan. You can have MJ. I'd take that trade. Kobe's not even on the same level.
June 3, 200917 yr Author Shaq would have the upper hand against any center in the history of the game. I'd take my chances with Shaq any day of the week. And you would lose. Shaq is the closest to matching Wilt's dominance, but even he doesn't present everything Chamberlain does. He would wear Shaq down with his quickness and athleticism.
June 3, 200917 yr Author I'd take that trade. Kobe's not even on the same level. You can't tell him that. He knows:thumb: I'm the same way though, I would take LBJ or Pistol Pete for my team. But MJ is the G.O.A.T.
June 3, 200917 yr And you would lose. Shaq is the closest to matching Wilt's dominance, but even he doesn't present everything Chamberlain does. He would wear Shaq down with his quickness and athleticism. The problem there is, I think Wilt weighed 98 pounds to Shaqs 300. Wilt found most of his success powering over everyone. I can't see him doing that against Shaq.

It is the classic case of trying to compare players in different eras. I only judge players based upon their competition at the time. The athleticism along with the strength and conditioning of today's players trumps that of anyone before the mid 90s by a long shot, and it is not even close. You can just tell looking at the players how much more frail they are.

That is definitely true. However, had Wilt grown up in this era he would have had alot more muscle. Imagine the athleticism he would have today with weight training, speed training and the like. You cannot go wrong with either choice. The only thing that could have stopped Shaq in his day was an Army Tank.

June 3, 200917 yr I have a strict no UNC alumni rule for my teams.:ylsuper: Just to be sure, you want Kobe over MJ because of a hatred for UNC, you don't actually think Kobe is as good as MJ do you?
June 4, 200917 yr Just to be sure, you want Kobe over MJ because of a hatred for UNC, you don't actually think Kobe is as good as MJ do you? Well, it's complicated. You see, Kobe is my all time favorite player. I blindly believe that Kobe is better than MJ and that if they both were in their prime and played 1-on-1(win by 2) that the game would never end. Without getting into yet another who's better discussion, MJ has more charisma, fans, love from the media, persona, etc than Kobe which is why he is viewed the way he is viewed. I would always take Kobe over MJ. I actually have never liked MJ an I never will. The only thing I have liked abut MJ was his shoes. The UNC thing is just a small part of the reason. I really really hate UNC.
June 5, 200917 yr Author Hey I had a convo with a buddy the other day about old era players. This is the same buddy that makes me root against Kobe, but oh well. His justification for having Kobe at #2 is that none of the other players mentioned were good and could play today. Players I mentioned are........ Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Magic, Kareem, Pistol Pete Maravich, Jerry West, Bob Cousy, Elgin Baylor, Larry Bird, Havlicek and a few others. That's right, none of them are any good and wouldn't even play in the D-League now. :thumb: Just though I would pass that on, I've been giving him a pretty hard time about it.

I would say that they would be good to great players today, but a guy like Kobe playing in their era would be akin to Michael J. Fox playing the electric guitar in Back to the Future.
June 5, 200917 yr 1. MJ 2. Big O- Didn't he average a triple double one season? 3. Russell 4. Magic 5. Chamberlin 6. Bird 7. Abdul-Jabbar 8. Jerry West 9. Duncan 10. Pistol Pete

Fox playing the electric guitar in Back to the Future. Of all the players in the older era in the NBA the one player who would benefit the most from playing today would be Pistol Pete. If he were to play in this era, he would be one of, if not the most popular player in the league. He was a great basketball player. As for Kobe the same could be said for many other players. I think Ginobili would be interesting in the old era. He has a weird mix to his game between old school, new school and euro ball.

Pistol Pete Any list with Pistol Pete is a good list to me.:thumb: I actually think he is the most TALENTED basketball player to ever play the game all levels considered. He didn't have the NBA career that other had, or the overall athleticism that most on this list had but he was a brilliant basketball player.

When MJ came into the league is when the "change in the type of player" took place in the NBA.
