I obviously hope the best for Luke as he is an outstanding player and kid, but however I'm not positive if he will win Mr. Baseball since his team did not make a legit run at state? Anyone agree to this?

To the best of my knowledge the feat that Luke accomplished by wining this award three straight years in the Ninth Region has never been done, and I just wonder if it been done anywhere in Kentucky in any sport.

 

To think that one player has won the POY three straight years in any sport is just amazing to me!

Couldn't agree more! Why wait? Kentucky will be getting a top notch player in the fall. As for the POY up here? Some others had great seasons but if you've won the award the two previous years and had just another stand out year how could you think of awarding it to anyone else? As for Mr. Baseball? IMO his stats make him one of the top candidates. IMO he represents what Mr. Baseball is. 3 time POY, his stats, playing on one of the best teams in the state over the past 4 years. Cov Cath also plays a tough schedule year in and year out where he has faced the toughest competition in the state. He has represented his school and this Region in a very positive manner as a player and a fine young man. What a great future he has in front of him!

Maile Named Area Baseball Player Of The Year

Covington Catholic senior catcher Luke Maile was voted Division I Player of the Year by Northern Kentucky high school baseball coaches for the third consecutive year.

 

A University of Kentucky recruit, Maile finished the regular season with a .510 (51 of 100) batting average, 12 home runs and 50 RBI.

 

Bellevue shortstop Hunter Jones was voted Division II Player of the Year. His regular-season statistics included a .593 batting average (48 of 81), 32 RBI and 23 extra-base hits.

 

Coach of the Year Awards went to Brad Arlinghaus of Conner in Division I and Mike Holtz of Holy Cross in Division II.

 

Conner made it to the semifinals of the 9th Region post-season tournament after finishing the regular season with a 13-14 record. Holy Cross won the 9th Region All “A” Classic and was runner-up in the small-school state tournament.

Scott got a lot of recognition this year on the all-star team. Great year for the Eagles!
