Beechwood 5 Highlands 2

Featured Replies

Conner hits the ball very well and if they are on they can hit right with CCH and they will be a tough out for anyone. So if your Coach Myerhoff do you throw Smith and get to the Championship or take a chance with someone else and maybe catch Conner on an off day?

I understand wanting to save good pitching for the later rounds of the Regional, but IMO Highlands made a bad move by not pitching their stud. Beechwood made that mistake last year against Boone. If Beechwood doesn't pitch Smith tonight, they could be in the same situation.

Congrats to Beechwood. They will need Smith to have a chance to beat Conner IMO.

Beechwood did not make a mistake last year against Boone. BW did not take care of the baseball against Boone. They had about 6 errors in that game on simple plays. One ball under CF glove that went to the wall 2 errors by 1st baseman and SS. This is what beat BW last year.

I might be wrong, but I do not think Smith will start this game. My feeling is this, Coach M feels he needs Smith to beat CCH who should make it out of the other side. He plays this tourney to win the whole thing and not a game or two. He projects his pitching for the bracket on the other side.

My prediction: Smith will not start, may see him if needed later,Larimore starts.

Everyone said BW had to throw Smith yesterday too. :idunno:

I'm saying that Smith will throw. I'm 90% sure that Smith will be on the mound. Connor can hit just as good as any team in the 9th and Smith will need to shut them down. I expect Connor to get 4 on Smith, what it comes down to is if BW can produce runs like they did yesterday.

I have been wrong before. :thumb:

As have I and could be. We'll just have to see.

Keep in mind that it is not necessarily some flamethrower pitcher that is always the best option. Donovan from Ryle just shut down Conner last week because he had them off balance all night long. He was not blowing the ball by them. Not sure if BW has this type of pitcher available, but against a team like Conner, that type of pitcher would be a very good option.

That type of pitcher was Bertke, he could throw more curveballs than fastballs in most innings he pitches.

#27 started and #10 came in the middle of the 2nd. I do not remember who finished, but I do not think it was Sainola.

Why wouldn't they throw Sainola?

I was telling someone the same thing. I watched Donovan frustrate Conner all game long and then they get Smallwood who throws hard and they tee off on him. I haven't seen Smith pitch but if all he can throw for stikes is a fastball, I think Beechwood is in trouble, no matter how hard he throws. But, defense is every bit as important as we saw yesterday.

He can do more than just throw a fastball. His curve is strong as well.

Strong? I'll give you average. It needs some work.

Why are you always talking down about any other team in the region besides CCH?
