Not me. I don't really like either player, but give me Pierce. He isn't the shooter that Allen is, but his overall offensive game is far superior. If Allen isn't shooting well he isn't scoring. Pierce can manufacture some points.

Not really much difference in a 2 and a 3 though usually in size. Really outside of combo guards, to me SG and SF are basically the same position. I think LBJ could be a 2 and Kobe could be a 3.

Exactly, meaning, they really aren't going to be matched up against one another that often. Kobe guards Billups, JR Smith and Dahntay Jones more than he guards Melo and he'll guard Mo Williams and West more than he''ll guard LBJ. Kobe isn't strong enough to guard LBJ or most SF's.

Yeah, you're right, he scored 19 of the 28 points in the fourth quarter of game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals in 2002, which was the biggest fourth quarter comeback in NBA Playoff History. He hit two straight game winners in back to back games against the Wizards and 76ers in 2006, the entire playoffs last season he stepped up when Ray Allen disappeared, he kept them in a lot of close games this season without KG and did the same with the Big Ticket in the lineup-see the game winner against the Hawks early in the season.

 

And those are just off the top of my head.

 

 

 

You're right, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo always showed up when they were need without Kevin Garnett this season.

 

Just because he is not the most flashy player in the NBA-he can't steal a pass and take it down for a 360 windmill-doesn't mean he should not be among the best in the NBA. He is extremely smart and savvy, he plays solid defense, and I gurantee that 9 times out of 10 with the ball in his hand as the clock winds down, Paul Pierce hits the shot.

 

Except for the NBA Finals when Ray Allen carried the Celtics and was robbed of the Finals MVP.

 

Big Baby Davis was the most clutch Celtic in the playoffs this year. He had great 4th quarters the whole playoffs.

Big Baby had more than one good play. He had multiple double digit scoring 4th quarters and hit his free throws in the 4th quarter as well. Why do you think Pierce gave him the ball....because he'd already been knocking that shot down in the 4th quarter. Can't believe you're hating on Big Baby like that. He earned big money in this year's playoffs in KG's absence.

 

Ray Allen may disappear, but he also reappears, something Pierce didn't do in the playoffs THIS year. I remember Ray Ray hitting the game winning shot on Sasha Vujacic in the Finals last year, not the last shot of a 15 point 3RD quarter.

15 points in a quarter is some kind of achievement for Pierce? Kobe had 18 in the 4th quarter of Game 1 in this series I believe. Carmello has had bigger quarters this series... Lebron too.

I saw an interview with KG, Allen and Pierce... KG and Pierce both said they would want Ray to take the last shot and Ray said whoever the open man is. That's enough for me.

Well, I would disagree, but it's not like either player is a bad option. But, then again this may be a personal bias. I think Allen is very overrated. He is a great shooter, but I don't really think much of any other aspect of his game.

I just now got to get on here. I just wanted to give Lebron props for that big shot he made. I know I have been someone who has said he has yet to make a big shot at the end of the game to really win it for this team when it mattered, and he did in this game. So now he finally has one. He is going to have to keep proving over time though that he can make that big shot, but that was the first step in doing that.

It was an NBA Finals game, so yes, it is an acheivment; Pierce also did that after being hurt and having to go to the Locker room for a little while.

 

Another example of him being clutch is the enitre seventh game of the semis last year against the Cavs, when he and LeBron went at it and Pierce got the better of James and got the win.

 

So scoring 15 points in the third quarter when your team is down in the Finals is a clutch job for me. I like how Kobe can hit shots with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter and everyone consiers that clutch but when Paul Pierce, LeBron or Billups makes the same shot it isn't.

I have to disagree. He was huge in those years when he and Walker lead the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. He hit a lot of huge shots. He is by far the most clutch on the Celtics.

 

Pierce is clutch, but Ray Allen is more clutch than him. I mean Paul Pierce has even said that Ray Allen usually should be the one who takes the last shot. Even on days when Allen is off, he still seems to be pretty good at making a big shot when they need it at the end. Its a nice problem for the Celtics to have though that for sure because they have two very good options at the end of the game, however Allen would get the nod over Pierce and Pierce has even admitted that.

Allen over Pierce? No way.

 

Paul Pierce was worn out at the end of the playoffs. He looked gassed, IMO and even slower than usual.

 

He's been a very good (underrated) play his whole career, who took advantage of his moment on the big stage. And, he is definitely one of the top guys on the list of players you want taking a big shot at the end a game...just based on the last two years.
