He is much better now. I though Jordan was better overall from 96-98 than he was in the 80's. I really like the polish players put on their games. Explosion has nothing to do with how good Kobe is. If he was solely a dunker, we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. I think the blocks say more about playoff basketball than anything. Kobe could have still tried to dunk it, but in the playoffs, unless you pick your spots, your poster attempt may end in a trip to the hospital.

 

His leaping ability was never elite. It didn't make him. As for the first step, Kobe does pretty much what he wants on the court. He has a reliable jumper and sticks to it.

 

I feel like this is just a way to defend him when matched up against LeBron. Kobe in his prime (Whatever age you want say it is) would still by at a disadvantage phyisically against LBJ. So would everyone else who has ever played basketball.

Very true. I'm no Kobe fan, but as a basketball fan, I like his game now more than ever. I think his is an offensive mastermind and can get his shot off against some crazy defense.

I have to disagree. He was huge in those years when he and Walker lead the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals. He hit a lot of huge shots. He is by far the most clutch on the Celtics.

 

They made it once.

Melo is probably in the top 5 but the big 3 are on such a different level than everyone else. Heck Kobe and Lebron are even on another level than Wade IMO.

Not really much difference in a 2 and a 3 though usually in size. Really outside of combo guards, to me SG and SF are basically the same position. I think LBJ could be a 2 and Kobe could be a 3.

I just can't see Melo that high yet. He was only 3rd team All-NBA this year. He's not a Top 5 player yet, but certainly has the potential to be.

 

Ah, but Dirk was 1st team I believe. Dirk's a great player, but at this stage in his career I don't see him as a top 5 player in the NBA.

Wade

Chris Paul

Kobe, DWade, LeBron, and Chauncey are all more clutch than Pierce, and that's just off the top of my head.

 

Yeah, you're right, he scored 19 of the 28 points in the fourth quarter of game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals in 2002, which was the biggest fourth quarter comeback in NBA Playoff History. He hit two straight game winners in back to back games against the Wizards and 76ers in 2006, the entire playoffs last season he stepped up when Ray Allen disappeared, he kept them in a lot of close games this season without KG and did the same with the Big Ticket in the lineup-see the game winner against the Hawks early in the season.

 

And those are just off the top of my head.

 

Pierce was clutch in the playoffs last year, but that's about it for his resume. He's not even the most clutch guy on his team.

 

You're right, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo always showed up when they were need without Kevin Garnett this season.

 

Just because he is not the most flashy player in the NBA-he can't steal a pass and take it down for a 360 windmill-doesn't mean he should not be among the best in the NBA. He is extremely smart and savvy, he plays solid defense, and I gurantee that 9 times out of 10 with the ball in his hand as the clock winds down, Paul Pierce hits the shot.

Not in the same class if you are talking about overall talent. As a closer, Paul Pierce can hang with the best of them.

Perhaps I like him. And the ENTIRE playoffs from last year is an example, they won the NBA Championship that season and he played at a constant high the entire way through when Kevin Garnett didn't play as well, and Ray Allen would disappear completely. That tells me a lot

and of course he isn't on the same level talent wise as a lot of player in the NBA, heck OJ Mayo and Kelenna Azubuike are more talented than Pierce; but the fact that he plays solid D, and can draw a foul better than anyone in the NBA and does a lot of that without the talent that the top players in the NBA have.
