Curious why you keep referring to Bracken like they have no right to have high expectations? Why should they, or any other school, Class A or otherwise; set their expectations so low that simply MAKING a regional tourney, or district final is earth shattering news?? Others don't think so small--Maybe that's part of the problem??

Bracken has some of the nicest Class A facilities in the region, and maybe the state; and has a captive audience in their community. With the proper younger programs, a more challenging schedule (quit playing Augusta, Deming, st. Pat's, etc. 3-4 each every year), and some coaching stability; there's no reason they can't be successful at their level and beyond??

Tell me which public, Class A school in the 10th region is consistently knocking on the door for the 10th region championship? (or what public, Class A school in the state, for that matter). I'll grant that there are a few statewide, but they are needles in the proverbial haystack--especially in basketball.

Agree on the facilities and the captive audience, but neither of those two factors play a huge role in determining success.

However, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the younger programs. Bracken County has LONG-NEEDED a better feeder-system. I see this in particular with girls' basketball. In the past few years, the Lady Bears have had a lot of talent, and play with great effort, but they lack in some of the most basic fundamental aspects of the game (like not giving the ball back to the other team every other possession).

Also agree on the schedule. While playing the likes of Augusta, Deming, & St. Patrick are fine, playing them 6-10 times per year is ludicrous--especially when you consider that the district doesn't seed. There's only need for one game vs. teams like that (not counting post-season & Class A play, of course).

But back to the other issue: I'm not saying Bracken shouldn't have high expectations. I'm all for setting the bar high. I'm simply stating that any win in the regional tournament postseason is a big-deal for a program like that, regardless of the sport.

I still think you need to schedule teams that throw different things at you - slow and methodical, run-and-gun, primarily zone, primarily man, etc. If you can get that kind of variety by playing St. Patrick 6 times a year, more power to you. I'd just like to see the Polar Bears expand their out-of-region scheduling vision just a bit.

Agreed! :thumb:

Congratulations to Coach Persinger. This is well deserved. I hope those of you in Bracken County can support him. It sounds like some of you have a personal vendetta against him. If the folks of Bracken County don't support him and let him run the program the way he and his staff want to run it will be a shame. Step aside and let him run the program his way.

By the way if this "other" candidate was so super why has he remained where he is at. Perhaps you forget it doesn't matter how great you were when you played and what you accomplished as a player, nor does it matter a great deal when it comes to coaching as their is a head coach making all the calls, unless its a situation where the assistant coach is doing more coaching than the head coach. Great players dont automatically make great coaches. If he is so great as a teacher and coach, I would think everyone would be knocking down his door.

Congratulations Chad.

I don't think there is a vendetta. It's just we've seen him coach and don't think he is as great as some make him out to be. Ask any kid who has played under him how much he worked on fundamentals with them. "None" will be their answer. All of his practices consisted of the starting 5 on 7th scrimmaging the starting 5 8th graders. How does that help develop players? You HAVE to do fundamental work. Just hope he does a better job at this level of play. If not, it's gonna be a long season.

And I thought I stood alone!!!!!!!! Thanks for having an open mind!

Anyone who thinks nice facilities do not help a program is crazy, they most certainly do. A very nice weight room compared to a few free weights over in a corner, that would seem to me a huge difference and advantage!

Never said they didn't help. I said they didn't play a huge factor.

You can have tens of thousands invested in weight & conditioning equipment, but if you lack the athletes to use them, they don't amount to much.

Calipari says it best: it's all about players. I would say that coaching is next most important. Players and coaches are the primary contributors to a team's success, or lack thereof. Everything else is secondary.

Would definitely have to disagree with you on this point. It is very easy to say it is all about the players, but we are not dealing w/world class athletes here, these are HS students. When Coach Cal says it is all about the players, he is right at that level, he chooses who he wants to play on his team, from 100's across the country.

Now a HS coach still chooses his team, however, from a much smaller sample and sometimes you have to keep players for need. Those are the times when the coaching and the facilities come in to play even more to help make the team better, to make the individual player better, to overall improve.

They need to be pushed and motivated and coached, so w/that I agree w/you some, it is about coaching!

The nicer facilities and the access to them and the coach USING them can make a HUGE difference and can play a HUGE factor in a team's ability to perform. It is just that simple, honestly!

We'll just have to disagree then. To each his own, as the saying goes.

If I were a coach, I'd much prefer Shelby Valley's athletes over "School X" who has 5-star facilities and a talent-average roster (I have no idea what Shelby Valley's facilities are like...just using them as an example b/c they've been good lately & will be good next year).

Well we can agree to disagree, but I really think the point was lost. So in the end it really does not matter.

Every coach wants and needs athletes to compete (Shelby Valley, Mason County, Augusta, Clay County etc.), there is no denying that. However, not every coach has that luxury, that is want I am saying here. Most coaches take the hands they are dealt and move forward and try to improve while in the weight room, w/game film, on the court or field, individual and team instruction. That is where those nice facilities come in, to help motivate some of these kids, much easier to do w/the nicer stuff as opposed to hand me down stuff and run-of-the-mill stuff!

I don't have dog in the fight and I have no idea about the new coach at Bracken. I have worked with these boys at camps in the past and I think that they should be able to win within their class. No matter what the weight room is, a coach can develop players. I know that a nice weight room can bring new players in, but at the HS level you have to develop what you have. So as far as the weightroom, I think that is on the back burner. Anyone can take a weightroom and make it great for a HS program, all it takes is to move weights around into stations. Good luck to the new coach. He has the players to have a good year.

Again, the point is COMPLETELY missed. So at this point I am going to drop it!

....................... Sources tell me that maybe the heat got to him PASSED OUT OR SOMETHING....., Is he ok,. Need the full report please, Hope all is well, Got a girls region to win and then a boys all in one year,
