November 5, 200916 yr I'm 41 and I just can't accept 90's music as classic! I'm sorry (as Simon would say...) but I am an 80's music fan and 60's, 70's and 80's rock fan and it is hard for me to include "Grunge" in my classic rock library. Call me old fashioned but dangit, I am who I am. 90's???? Man I have trouble accepting anything after the mid to late 70's as classic. I ain't sayin how old I am.
November 5, 200916 yr I will be 44 in the next 2 weeks, so I know how you feel. It is hard for me to consider anything classic rock except the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who, Beatles, Stones, Cream, etc..... Same here.

I wanted so badly to put Candlebox on my list. I think they made some of the better music of the '90s... But since most people I know have not even heard of them, I don't know how good their chances are.

I wanted so badly to put Candlebox on my list. I think they made some of the better music of the '90s... But since most people I know have not even heard of them, I don't know how good their chances are. I don't even know who Incubus is, so I'm having a hard time envisioning them entering the pantheon of all-time greats. The band Live really only had one album and one additional song of any note before becoming waaaayyyy too pretentious for their own good. The others are all solid choices.
November 5, 200916 yr Would you say that Jack himself has a better chance than The White Stripes as a whole? With six full-length studio albums by the White Stripes, I think it would be fair (but impossible) to look at that band's output as meritorious in it's own right apart from Jack's many other projects.

There are a lot of others that should...but I have very little faith in the general public's ability to properly judge music so I don't know. We can't force someone to like something they don't and we shouldn't feel an obligation to point out that in our opinion, the music they listen to is crap and they really don't have a clue what good music is. To each his own. If someone likes a song, then it is a good song to them regardless of what you or I may think of it. It is our right to not like it, ... it is their right to like it. I think the downside is that Jim is right that mainsteam radio won't play certain artists and instead you hear the same thing over and over and over again. If they would open up a little more, it would allow the public to hear some music they would not normally have heard, and they just might like it. With that being said, no radio station or amount of airplay can make me like something I just don't like.

Maybe not all that I like but there is something generally better behind Door #3 for most fans of mainstream music.

That's why I like XM so much. In the last 2 years I've heard so much music from people I would never have heard of.
