Clyde Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 $600 increase to consumers. Along with that increase comes less gas consumers have to buy. At $2 per gallon consumers come out ahead after 300 gallons. If you drive 15,000 miles per year and get 30 MPG you use 500 gallons per year. Therefore, your $600 is returned very quickly. As to the cost to the manufacturer that's an old story. They were already planning on implementing the new standards.
75center Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 In this case I agree it's money well spent. It seems like a win for everyone. Only concern is the safety issue as they make cars more and more out of plastic.

Silver lining in everything my friend. If it was as easy and cost effective to do as some make it seem, the automanufacturers would have already done it. Unless of course, the American public doesn't want to drive in small cars. Then again, I doubt that President Obama cares what the American public wants on this issue. You WILL drive a smaller, lighter car and you WILL like it. Now shut up and go back to work so you can generate some more tax revenue for the federal govt. :D
cch5432 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I don't understand it. Can someone explain to me the plan?

cch5432 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Apparently we aren't buying the cars they are making now. Shall we be forced to? I'm curious to hear your response, not being a smart alec. Does the Federal Government have the right to force to us to purchase cars that we clearly have not been purchasing. Does the United States Constitution and its Amendments give the Federal Government the right to do this?
Royal Uncle Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Just more forced socialism. I am 6'7". I own a Chevy Suburban and a 2500 Silverado. No one, including our arrogant president, is going to make me drive a small car.
leatherneck Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Apparently we aren't buying the cars they are making now. Speak for yourself. I drive a Ford F150, thank you very much.

You arrogant Americans think you can do what you want all in the name of your so called freedom.

Increasing avg gas mileage , again as you know, is nothing new.

Increasing avg gas mileage , again as you know, is nothing new. Very familiar with it. Didn't like it before; don't like it now. And if voicing my opinion opposed to it constitutes piling on to you, then so be it. I thought I was just exercising my right to free speech.
75center Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Speak for yourself. I drive a Ford F150, thank you very much. GREAT truck! I have a 1987 with almost 300,000 miles on it. Looks like dirt but runs great.
