This post has nothing to do with Coach Coldiron personally as i do not know him, but i remember seeing and hearing that the reason for firing Coach Kelly was because they wanted to go in a different direction. (sort of like with UK's coach) So they went out and hired his assistant? Any thoughts on that?

I had heard there were some parent issues there and it was a shame that parents had that much say in it. Coach Coldiron is a logical hire. He has head coaching experience and has been successful. Also, he already works at Lafayette (I assume) and they do not have to bring someone in and give them a job. If you are not going to go after a big name coach this seems to make sense.

 

As far as the team Lafayette will have 3 very nice players returning to build around in Napier, Walker, and Yarborough. All 3 were very good this past year. They had other good players returning as well, but I really like those 3.

Yes, they will be back in the mix, but not as a good team. They will be in the mix of programs that are looking to hire a new coach in about 2 years. That is how much time that I will give him. He got fired at Cawood, then he got fired at Russell Co., then he got fired at Powell Co. I would guess that the trend will continue.

 

That is just not very nice. I must say you " My Friend" should get a rude for today. I am wishing Coldiron a good year from one Harlan Co guy to another.

It is sort of strange. Many previous posters said Coldiron got a "bad deal" at Cawood and also at Powell County. He's obviously held several head coaching positions. You have to think there is something more to him than "bad deals" with being fired several times.

If he's such a good coach, why did they fire him at Russell County? This does seem like a puzzling hire for Lafayette. You would think one of the most storied programs in the state would have a strong enough pool of candidates that they wouldn't have to hire someone who had been fired from so many jobs.

Considering the situation I think its a good hire. Fayette Co. hasn't really shown a dedication to basketball. You can tell that by looking at a lot of the rules that are in place.

Yes, I agree with LMB. Fayette County really doesn't support or strongly encourage their sports programs. The monetary support they get is frankly embarrassing. Middle School BB only plays 10-11 games per year. No wonder there aren't many great players coming out of the public system in Fayette anymore. That is why they end up at SC and LC.

I think that it is a lack of understanding to believe that only "bad" coaches get fired. Too many times coaches are fired for not having the support of the empowered and an administrator with the backbone to stand up to them. I would hope that the new coach was chosen on merit, meaning that the administration has watched this person conduct themselves in the practices, games, and off the court as well.
