May 24, 200917 yr If we are talking about which player you would rather have, it's Howard over Melo without hesitation for me. I don't know about that. If I have another great/very good player to put with them then I'd go with Howard. If I had to start a franchise from the ground up I'd go Melo. Howard is a defensive beast, but offensively he is very limited. Melo can score with the best of them, and his defense is on the way up. It's a push, but i'd lean towards Melo.

There is a list very long of guys like Turkoglu and Rashard Lewis that you could throw around Howard and the team would be very good. Same can't be said for Melo, it took Chauncey being there to make them a legitimate contender.

The thing that I have noticed this week about the Magic is that they are constructed very well. Lewis and Turkoglu are perfect to play along side Dwight Howard. You take either of them away and replace them with say Ray Allen or Michael Redd two other good shooters and I don't think the team is as good. What you get with those two are two players who are 6-10, play the pick and roll very well, and can handle the ball. Their size and ability creates alot for Howard out of the pick and roll. The other players on the team I will agree with, you could replace them with anyone of similar talent. But alot of what Howard does offensively is helped by Hedu and Lewis. Also the Nuggets are in the West. The Nuggets would be a consistent top 4 team in the East, even before Chauncey. They would have won some series in the East the last few years. You have to have more than one really good player out west. DWade almost got a team with no one around him to the 2nd round this year. Like I said, if I had an expansion team it would be Melo over Howard because of the offensive end, which in most games is non-existent for Howard outside of thunderous dunks. I will say one thing though, he works with Patrick Ewing alot before the games (and I'm sure at/after practices). Howard's game will get better, and it think that is evident in his free throw shooting and jump hook. He is no where near a good free-throw shooter, but his touch has gotten alot better. Ewing, who had plenty of moves, will have Howard scoring alot more consistently in the near future.
May 24, 200917 yr If I'm starting a team I take Howard over Melo. That's a no brainer to me. It's much easier to start a team with an anchor like Howard. Melo is tuff too, but to me he is no better than Dirk, Nash, etc. He belongs with those guys, he isn't on the level of a Bryant, James, D Wade, IMHO.
May 24, 200917 yr Author I don't think you could really go wrong with either one. Howard is not on the level of Kobe, LBJ, DWade, but then again, who is. I'd put CP3, Howard, and Melo in the same tier right below the Big 3.
May 24, 200917 yr I think CP3 will bust in there in the convo with the top 3. He is a pure point guard so stats won't show it, but to me he is easily the 4th best player in the league.
May 24, 200917 yr I like CP3 a lot, but he is just this generations Jason Kidd. There ain't nothing wrong with that, but Jason Kidd was never on the level with those "elite" players during his era either. There are a lot of really good players in the NBA, but to me there is three elite players.

Kidd was a better rebounder and had more size. I see Deron Williams as a better shooting kid. I think CP3 could end up as one of the top 3 overall PG's to ever play.
