Clyde Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Nancy Pelosi said today that the CIA lied to Congress years ago when they told them that waterboarding was not being used when in fact it had already been used. Should the CIA be held accountable for being truthful with Congress?
FarBeyondDriven Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Nancy Pelosi said today that the CIA lied to Congress years ago when they told them that waterboarding was not being used when in fact it had already been used. Should the CIA be held accountable for being truthful with Congress? I don't think it to be wise to take Nancy Pelosi at her word. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I have a feeling that she has "stepped in it".
Habib Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Personally, I think Nancy Pelosi should be held accountable for her involvement and/or complicity in the movement toward torture. I view this story posted here to be a diversion from her misdeeds.
Royal Uncle Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Nancy Pelosi said today that the CIA lied to Congress years ago when they told them that waterboarding was not being used when in fact it had already been used. Should the CIA be held accountable for being truthful with Congress? Prove they lied first. I'm more inclined to believe the folks charged with keeping us safe rather than some self serving member of Congress that just likes to hear herself talk.
Bluegrasscard Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hmmm...Pelosi or the CIA... I would take the CIA... Mrs. P has always found it easy to change her mind when (politically) needed. Since this torture stuff is a giant smoke screen its not going away and Mrs. P can not afford to be dragged in as 'knowing'. She is either a liar or a fool. Either makes her unfit to be 3rd in line.
Clyde Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 I used today's presser by Pelosi simply as a lead-in to the bigger issue. Pelosi is irrelevant to this thread. Should the CIA be truthful and accountable to the Congress?
shooter Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 In the Pelosi vs the CIA war, I'll take the CIA. The CIA probably has the documentation to prove their side of the story. Also, even if the documentation is inconsistent, the CIA can selectively release only the documents that support their side of the story. IMHO, Pelosi made a big mistake in doubling down against the CIA. She needs to have another story take the limelight away from her.

Should the CIA be truthful and accountable to the Congress? Do you have anything more than an accusation from Pelosi to substantiate that charge?
PepRock01 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Is it always pertinent, or wise, for those tasked with national security to be 100% truthful at all times?
Clyde Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Do you have anything more than an accusation from Pelosi to substantiate that charge? Brother, I've already stated that her charge is irrelevant to this thread and to the issue at hand. Again, should the CIA be accountable and truthful with Congress at all times?

Clyde Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 When reading this I think of this. Apropos to the issue at hand.
Plato Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Brother, I've already stated that her charge is irrelevant to this thread and to the issue at hand. Again, should the CIA be accountable and truthful with Congress at all times? Congress should stay out of baseball, college bowl games, and the CIA's business. I'd like the CIA folks to interview some of the congressmen and see how truthful they would be:ylsuper:
