10 States now I think. Next step is a global pandemic. It will be interesting to see if this effects the Derby. Lville might become a petri dish for it!

It was just announced on CNN that the first U.S. death from the swine flu was a 23 month old baby from Texas.

The W.H.O. just raised their pandemic level to level 5. This means that a pandemic is imminent. Their highest level is 6.

I do not doubt your numbers but I would like to see a break down of the deaths.

 

For the most part flu vacines are available at a very low cost to virtually anyone in the U.S. So there is a large effort to reduce flu related deaths in our country.

 

For the most part, my understanding is that the vast majority of flu related deaths are to the very elderly and people who are already weakened by some other form of illness. The average healthy person generally is not at risk to die.

 

Swine flu and other strains are very capable of killing healthy people.

Another reason the border to mexico needs to be secured and taken seriously, both for health and agricultural reasons.

 

 

As I asked in the other thread....since the US cases are not from illegals, exactly what will sealing the border accomplish, when vacationers can still travel to and fro uninhibited and carry the flu with them?

As I've studied this I can't agree it is stupid. Even though the symptoms are the almost the same as the seasonal flu there are some stark differences.

 

This a new viral infection which no one in the human race has ever been exposed to. So none of us will have any antibodies to fight this disease. There are now people who are getting infected that have not been to Mexico. This is why the W.H.O. raised pandemic level to 5. Even though there are medicines that if used early can help a person recover now these viruses are known to mutate. This means there is no guarantee this will continue.

 

Also with no swine flu vaccine now this means that they will have to come up with one. With a limited capacity to make the seasonal flu vaccine this will take away from that and might cause shortages later this year.
