April 27, 200917 yr The Trans Am, Firebird, GTO, and Grand Prix all gone. Never more to be made. 21,000 jobs gone too. GM to Discontinue Pontiac Brand
April 28, 200917 yr Very sad. It was between Pontiac and Buick, they wouldn't drop Buick because it sells in China:rolleyes: G8 is the BEST performance sedan on the market for the money, HANDS DOWN.

Agree 100%... IMO, GM went wong by making different brands, Of the same cars... The equinox and the pontiac torrent was the exact same vehicle....
April 28, 200917 yr I hate to hear this news. More jobs gone. One of my happiest moments was when I got my new '77 Trans Am back in the day.:jump: And for $6,800 at that.

April 28, 200917 yr Are you guys actually sad about this for the job losses? Why? GM is cutting a line that clearly isn't profitable, or else they would keep it. This move will only help the health of a company like GM, instead of continuing to drag it down. Furthermore, the Pontiac jobs may be lost, but every car that they made was bought buy somebody- do you think that all of the sudden people are going to stop demanding cars? No, they will buy some different cars, which will lead to more jobs in a more productive, efficient company. I say it's about time that GM dropped Pontiac.

I would much rather see a company drop a failing business model than stick their hands out to keep that model running.

Pontiac is profitable now, the first time in a long time. Saturn is not, Hummer is not, Buick is not here, only in China. They were on the right track, actually taking market share from BMW, Lexus and Infiniti in the sport sedan segment with the G6 and G8. The mistake they made was their best product was a V8, a no-no for the new "green" white house. Get on some Pontiac/GM boards and you'll see why Pontiac is getting cut. There is something not right with all the bailout plans.........
April 28, 200917 yr This was long over due. No offense to anyone that owns a Pontiac but they are junk.
April 28, 200917 yr This may be too little too late for GM. Ford seems positioned to become THE United States auto manufacturer when this thing plays out. The new Fusion Hybrid looks very promising.

If this is the case, you are going to have to expand on what you mean by "something not right."
April 28, 200917 yr Author No division of GM is profitable at the moment. Saturn and Hummer will be gone or sold by the end of the year. IMO, GM will be in Chapter 11 before the end of the summer, if not sooner.
