Luke is good but thats almost 8 hits a game playing 30 games a year since you were in 8th grade. Even Pete would be impressed.:scared:

Uhhh, 8 hits a game? Has he been starting since 5th grade? If he's played in 300 games, that's over 40 games over 7 seasons, he's still averaging over 3 hits a game. Not saying he didn't get that many hits, but I'm having a hard time getting the math to work if he only played 5 varsity seasons. 40 games would be just about the max you could play per season which would give you at most 160 plate appearances, x's 5 equals 800 PA's. We still need another two seasons of PA's to get over 1,000 PA's and assuming he didn't get a hit in every PA, you probably need an additional season of PA's to get to his .750 average. 8 seasons at 40 games equals 320 games x's 4 equal approx. 1,280 PA's to get to 1,165 hits. Did they count summer and fall ball games?

Better yet, it's great to have a Right hand bat in Eggemeier and a Left hand bat in Stayton in that DH spot that can hit. Both have done a very good job so far this season.

What's the AVG of each?

I am thinking that is a misprint so I was just having a little fun. Luke is a great player and even a better person.:thumb:

St.X is looking forward to hosting you guys this weekend. We may see if Maile can hit the Eeffus pitch, lol. Inside joke, X got beat in the regional final last year by CAL who threw a blooper pitcher that we struggled with.

You had a really bad view.

The good: The hitting of Nutini, Siemer and Lafever. Another runner trying to take home on a hit being thrown out at the plate as RF Martin threw a ball to Maile who with a catch and a sweep of his glove had the runner dead at the plate. IMHO opinion CovCath had a another runner dead at the plate as from my view the runner never touched the plate until after Maile placed the tag on him, but.....

The bad: The play of the infield, Adam Shumate deserved better today.

The ugly: The baseball field of Holmes/Holy Cross. My gosh the distance that the infield drops off behind third base, could be measured in feet not inches. The Ocean on a windy day is smoother than the outfield and a bunted ball down the third base line hopped and skipped right then left then right and then finally went foul. Not understand it wasn't a hit hit ball but a bunt. I have played, and watched games at this site for some 50 plus years and without a doubt I have never seen it in worse shape.

CovCath hitting:

Nutini 5 PA 2 runs scored 3 hits double 1 rbi and 1 walk

Siemer 5 PA 1 run scored 2 hits 1 rib 1 k and reached base via E-6

Maile 5 PA 1 run scored 2 hits double and 2 rbi's

Darner 5 PA 2 runs scored and 3 hits double

Isler 4 PA 2 hits double and 2 rbi's

Lafever 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit 2rbi's 2 sf's 1 sb and reached base via E-6

Holocher 4 PA 1 k and 1 sac

Stayton 4 PA 1 hit double and 1 walk

Ritter 1 run scored

Warning 1 run scored

Martin 4 PA 1 sac

CovCath pitching:

Shumate (2-0)

78 pitches 5 1/3 innings 24 PA 4 hits 5 runs 4 earned runs 4 walks 4 k's

Klein (2 saves)

19 pitches 1 2/3 innigs 7 PA 2 hits 2 k's

CovCath plays three tought games in a row in the LIT at Louisville St. Xavier diamond on Friday at 6pm vs Lexington Christian. Then they play St. X at nine the next moringing followed by Apollo after the St. X game.

Should be a great weekend of baseball with some outstanding weather forecasted.

Note I do not own a laptop so unless the hotel I am staying at has one that I can use, there will no posting from me until sometime late Saturday.

Luke is a great player and will be in college and probably the pro's.The 1,165 hits in his high school career has to be a misprint no way he has that many hits I doubt if he had close to that many plate appearances. Maybe they are counting his dads hits in high school to just kidding he is great kid and a great athlete and will be for many years to come. Cov Cath might need a new stat person though.

Yes something is fishy about the hits. 1,165 really? If they play thirty games a year times 4 years = 120 games. That's 9.75 hits a game....

The kid's good.

The record was 161 career hits by Tim Grogan from 1999-2002, so I am sure it was a type-o on the part of the NKy.com.

Congrats to Luke. What concerned me was the sixth inning of this game. Coach K waited way to long to make a pitching change. Shumate threw a very nice game but was running out of gas. I only saw one error that hurt Cov Cath and that was by the SS in the 6th on a double ball. What other "D" issues did I miss? Give Holmes credit, they didn't give up.

Now that seems more legit. Does anyone ever proof read the paper or other articles before they post ? Seems like there are more mistakes now for some reason maybe cutbacks because of the economy.

I guess you either came late or failed to notice the other two errors in the first and second innings.

If not for the play of Martin and Maile on the 9-2 tag out at the plate, the error in the second would have scored. Yep, that was the batter who was tagged out at the plate.

You are correct those other two errors didn't cost CovCath a run, but.... they started a trend of play, and that trend cause a very upset Krumps to lay into the team after the end of the sixth inning.

You are quite correct also, Holmes didn't give up and thats a credit to there Coach and players but in your honest opinion, did you think CovCath played up to their ability yesterday?

The great teams find a way to win when they are having an off night. Scenerios of "ifs" can always be said. And I like them because it brings out the real turning points of games played. Bottom line the Blue Colonels still won and credit to Holmes for making it a game! TOGS reviews are pretty acurate and fair. But for the Good comments .. You have to wait till after Dinner!!

Just kidding TOG!!:D

Meinken is an old landfill. You dig deep enough you will find garbage.

So it does settle.

I have not been down there this year, but the dropoff was not pretty last year.

They did put an irrigation system in this winter/spring.

I would think that part of the problem is that the dirt on that side of the infield has gradually built up and has caused a "lip" where the dirt meets the grass.

The parking lot is better...it used to be a practice site for the X Games skateboarding.
