I'm turning 21 in a few days and I was thinking about LEGALLY obtaining a firearm. After much consideration, I have decided that I am going to buy a Glock...and suggestions? I am wanting it for protection and was considering going with a 9mm.

I got the Glock .40 and carry it in an ankle holster. Mines for saftey too w/ hollow points to be sure they wont mess with me again. I strongly suggest it! Got a bit of a kick but fun at the range too!

9mm will put someone down just fine if the scenario were ever to arise. Which are slim to none, but I feel the same way as you and have one for that very reason. I've fired Glock 40's and they're nice, I just prefer the 9mm if you're carrying it on you.

I suggest you look into the Springfield XDM's. I have the 9mm version and 3 of my friends that all owened Glocks shot my XDM, they all traded in there Glocks for the XDM, smoothest shooting handgun I've ever shot

I'd much rather be carrying a .40 if I needed to use it on someone. A 9mm would probably do the job, but I wouldn't worry at all with a .40.

I don't ever want a 9mm, too small IMO. I like .40's and .45's :D.

Anyways, I have a Glock 22 .40. Looks a lot like this:

Thanks guys...I fired the 17 .40 the other day and really liked it.

I am with the others, given a choice I would take the .40 over the 9mm because of stopping power.

How much did yours cost?

If he's coming through a door maybe. I dunno I just think the 9mm will get the job done. Right now I've got a 40 caliber but I'm buying a 9mm next month.

If you already have a 40 then by all means run with a 9.

What model does everyone suggest?

If you want it to carry I would suggest the 23.

If it was up to me I'd just carry a shot gun.:D

I'd go with at least a .40 caliber. Most law enforcement's carry a .40 or .45. Not a lot of 9mm out there. A 9mm is adequate as a defense weapon as is also a 380 or even a .32, but I like something bigger. I carry a .45 APC Colt Commander. A Glock is an excellent choice. It doesn't have the safety levers, decocking levers that some weapons have making it much easier to use in a self defense situation.

Good choice, but they're a little hard to conceal.:isurrender::isurrender:
