2009 Montgomery County

Featured Replies

What does Montgomery County need to do to improve in 2009? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

They are changing the offense. They will be going with a power I formation. They had their spring scrimmage last week and by all accounts the coaches were very impressed and excited about the upcoming season.

I think the Indians will be successful next season, but they do have some big shoes to fill, the graduating seniors were a huge part of the team last year.

The Murphy kid had a huge spring game. rushed for 193 and had over 100 yards receiving (Scored 4 times). It will also be good to see the QB, Dotson, with a full season under his belt, experience at receiver, and depth at running back next year. With Zack Hood, Gabe Copley and Dustin Gross all capable of running the ball the MC offense should be able to run the spread offense like the past couple of years and incorporate some under center stuff as well. Watch for new comer Dayrl McCane to contribute at receiver. I was also impressed with the depth they had in the O-Line, haven't had that in the last two years.

1. Keep the numbers up. They had 50-55 out for spring ball. They need at least that many in the fall.

2. Incorporate the young incoming talent into what they already have. They have at least 3 freshmen coming in that can either start or contribute greatly. A QB, RB/LB, and a WR/RB that could be the fastest kid on the team.

3. Develop depth on the offensive and defensive lines. I fear that lack of quality depth could hurt them down the line.

This will be the hardest thing to do on this list, many kids come out for spring ball and are nowhere to be seen at the beginning of the season, I don't get it:rolleyes:.

The spring weather is nice. They work, but not as hard, etc. In the summer, the temps are hot and there is alot of conditioning and HARD work to get ready for the first game.

The Indians should have a good backfield with QB Seth Dotson, FB Zach Hood, and HB Tyler Murphy.

Justin Covey is an experienced WR and Andre McCall is a solid linemen.

Dotson, Covey, and Murphy also play DB.

What are the big question marks for this team? Depth?

Do you think the new power I offense will work?

Who are other key returnees?

What has helped there more than anything, aside from Dan Gooch, was the revival of the youth program. That town used to be a statewide football powerhouse. Let's hope they are on the road back.

I want to wish my indians good luck this season. I agree with you all that numbers has been and always will be a problem at Montgomery County. Kids just don't want to work, they want things like playing time to be given to them. Kids change their mind from spring ball to the first day of summer when the conditioning test is ran.

Top players for next season are Zack Hood(fb-lb), Andre McCall(ol-dl), Tyler Murphy(rb-olb), Patrick Jorgensen(ol-de) he tore his acl last seaon but is back for a strong senior year, Seth Dotson(qb), Justin Covey(wr), Chris Kendrick(DE) I look for him to have a great season, Sean Richardson(wr-db) stud in jv still waiting to see it in varsity.

The freshman coming up are solid players but i don't see them getting much playing time. It is a HUGE jump from 8th grade football to varsity football. People are talking about the 3 kids a lot already, give them a year to grow and get strong in the weight room as well as get a feel for varsity football.

Indians have solid numbers this season. Shows a lot of commitment by the players. I think Coach Gooch is getting buy-in for more players each year, sounds like this group is close knit and they get it!

Tough district to play in, but should be competitive and fun.

Indians scrimmage Boyle Co. Aug. 14th.

Can't wait to get started. Looking forward to being in Montgomery County on the 14th.

Didn't Boyle play Montgomery in the late 90's or early 2000?

I'm not sure but I know that Boyle played at Montgomery County in the Rec. Bowl a few years ago. I can't recall who they played though.

I see I just remember playing there a few years back.:thumb:

As memory serves me, I think Boyle played Clark Co in the 2001 Bowl game.
