April 17, 200917 yr True, she was given a terribly large amount of coverage, but I don't remember that being a part of war protest coverage. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=123332&highlight=Cindy+Sheehan http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=125621&highlight=Cindy+Sheehan Cindy Sheehan, Late May 2007 "I am going to take whatever I have left and go home. I am going to go home and be a mother to my surviving children and try to regain some of what I have lost. I will try to maintain and nurture some very positive relationships that I have found in the journey that I was forced into when Casey died and try to repair some of the ones that have fallen apart since I began this single-minded crusade to try and change a paradigm that is now, I am afraid, carved in immovable, unbendable and rigidly mendacious marble. Camp Casey has served its purpose. It’s for sale. Anyone want to buy five beautiful acres in Crawford, Texas? I will consider any reasonable offer. I hear George Bush will be moving out soon, too... which makes the property even more valuable. This is my resignation letter as the "face" of the American anti-war movement. This is not my "Checkers" moment, because I will never give up trying to help people in the world who are harmed by the empire of the good old US of A, but I am finished working in, or outside of this system. This system forcefully resists being helped and eats up the people who try to help it. I am getting out before it totally consumes me or anymore people that I love and the rest of my resources. Good-bye America ... you are not the country that I love and I finally realized no matter how much I sacrifice, I can’t make you be that country unless you want it."
April 17, 200917 yr She was camped outside his Crawford home demanding to meet with W about ending the war. How is that not part of the war protest coverage. She was the posterchild for it. She was one person. I just don't remember every time I turned on the TV or pulled up the internet during any day of protest of the war being inundated with coverage of it to the point it couldn't be avoided. And I watched a lot more TV back then, too.
April 17, 200917 yr As many suspected the general feeling of the "protesters" was on full display in Pensacola. A guy got up on the mic and pointed out that this whole debt issue started in 2001 and people started losing jobs prior to the last election at which point he was summarily booed off the stage. So, as suspected, it wasn't an anti-tax anti-spending rally but, rather, it was an anti-Obama rally.
April 17, 200917 yr When thousands of people in all 50 states assemble to protest government policy, you might suppose that this is news. Not according to the coverage on the front pages of the Washington Post, New York Times, or the Wall Street Journal. The "tea party" rallies went unmentioned. In Washington, D.C., despite temperatures in the 40s and a driving rainstorm, about a thousand demonstrators assembled across from the White House. The front page of the Times found space for a big story with accompanying pictures of competing public demonstrations in Kabul, Afghanistan, but not a word about the American protestors. http://townhall.com/columnists/MonaCharen/2009/04/17/cnn_versus_the_tea_parties

Again, if these people want any credibility and if they are trying to say its not an anti-Obama rally they would have done this a long time ago. Doing it now supports my contention. This isn't a new problem - unless you only watch one channel for your info.

Does the hypocrisy of many individuals remove the blame that President Obama deserves for enormous spending? "Bush did it too" doesn't alleviate the guilt from President Obama. Just because a lot of people don't recognize this doesn't mean that President Obama's spending is right (in the context of those who are anti-spending).

I know that I am one, but I have to believe others to share this same opinion as well, so grouping all people is not the correct thing to do.
April 17, 200917 yr :thumb: I think naming the protests the "Tea Party" was a dumb idea. Taxation without representation? Please. It was also about an abuse of power by a tyrantical king. It was about a king who had been petioned, but ignored the pleas of his people. He wanted their money. Part of the money was for their defense, but the colonists felt they were overtaxed and already burdened by the fact they supplied the needed raw materials for the Empire. And in some cases were not allowed to engage in some forms of commerce, as to not to compete with businesses in England. They believed that their rights as English citizens were being trampled upon.
April 17, 200917 yr According to Jenine Garlofalo (sp?), these were just an example of the radical right being racist....
April 17, 200917 yr Just curious, and anyone can really answer this question with thier own opinion and interpretation. How and where is tax moneys use mandated in the Constitution? How does Federal Income Tax being unconstitutional fit in the 16th Amendment? Instead of activist judges making up laws to fit their leftist agenda, I wish the left would pass constitutional amendments to put their beliefs into action. They will not try as they know they will never be approved. As to where to find where money is to be spent check Article I, Section 8, Clauses 1-17 of the Constitution. These are the powers delegated to Congress, this is were most of their spending powers would come from. There would be other places to look for expenditures such as running Congress itself, the Office of the Presidency and the Supreme Court and completing the census every 10 years.

After the excess spending of the stimulus bill and then the omnibus bill.
April 17, 200917 yr Author Instead of activist judges making up laws to fit their leftist agenda, I wish the left would pass constitutional amendments to put their beliefs into action. They will not try as they know they will never be approved. Judicial activism is not limited to "liberal". Plus, Judicial activism, or activist Judges cannnot just make up laws out of nowhere. A pertinent case has to come before them with some issue of law to interpret. Plus, if a Judge or Supreme Court Justice wants to interpret a law in a liberal way, they are violating the Constitution no more than a Judge or Justice that violates the Constitution in a conservative way. As to where to find where money is to be spent check Article I, Section 8, Clauses 1-17 of the Constitution. These are the powers delegated to QUOTE]Congress, this is were most of their spending powers would come from. There would be other places to look for expenditures such as running Congress itself, the Office of the Presidency and the Supreme Court and completing the census every 10 years. All fine and good until you look at Article I, Section 8, Clause 18: (Congress has the power), "...to make all Laws which shall be neccessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." Neccessary and Proper is a gray area. Article I Section 8 clause 1 says ..."Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes,..." but doesn't give the express directive by which they can execute that power. The IRS could be created as a bureacratic agency that Congress felt was "necessary and proper" to carry out the power of collecting taxes. Necessary and proper to one person, would be tyranny and socialism to another, in the nation of 300+ million. Therefore, we have the Supreme Court to be the final arbiter in terms of issues of the Constitution. They get to decide if (when a case involving this issue of law) whatever power or law Congress has undertaken via the "necessary and proper" clause, is Constitutional or not.
April 17, 200917 yr They did. I think the first one was in Cincy a good piece ago. February maybe? After the excess spending of the stimulus bill and then the omnibus bill. I don't remember Fox News putting up 100s of ads for that.

Just because a lot of people don't recognize this doesn't mean that President Obama's spending is right (in the context of those who are anti-spending). Your question, while fair, is immaterial here. Of course we can ask questions/protest/debate the current President's plans. The fact that no one did prior to 2009 tells me two things: 1. Fox didn't promote anti-Bush spending parties and 2. If Fox doesn't promote it then.....
