Today is the day that many people across the country plan to protest something, in the the form of a "Tea Party". The Tea Parties overall message IMO, is unclear. Many are anti-simulus, some are anit-socialism, some are anti-Obama, and some are trying to carry a non-partisain push. THe idea of the Tax Day Tea Party, is seen by some as a hope to stir up a grassroots movement and bring about another "revolution". My questions to the distinguished posters of the P&R fourms are as follows:

 

• What is your view on the message of the Tea Parties?
  
• Do you think the day will be sucessful for the supporters of the Tea Parties?
  
• How would you define sucessful, in this context?
  
• What do you expect will be the range of reactions from various media outlets?
  

The key to a sucsessful tea party is to use fresh tea and make sure that the water is at a full boil, but not boiled too long. Other than that, I think someone is looking for their fifteen minutes.

For the people that I know personally who are attending the one in Louisville today, yes. That said, it is probable that it is not the case for many involved but a little protest never hurt anyone.

I don't shed a tear for it, I am not personally sad that it happened. It happened, plain and simple. I am indifferent to it because I was not involved and it happened almost 40 years ago. The loss of life wasn't necessarily good, but I don't assign good or evil motives to the past except in very specific occasions.

People can and should protest for whatever reason they want, I just think that in terms of effectivnes, today is going to be such a hodgpoge of ideas(some of which will conflict), and that some politicians are trying to get thier names attatched in some areas to the protests, are going to spoil things for those who have the right purpose of protesting.

If I thought the people participating in the Tea Party stuff even had a clue what they were protesting, then I'd feel a lot better about it's effectiveness. I suspect most will take part because it's the "cool" thing to do.

Not all, but most. Regarding your references to Kent State, having lived through that period and indirectly knowing people shot at Kent State (friend of a friend type of thing), I'll submit that you have no clue about Kent State. They did not do anything to desrve being shot. I have long maintained that when people woke up to find that the government was shooting their children, the end of the Vietnam war was inevitable. Kent State (and the much less publicized Jackson State) were the beginning of the end for the Vietnam war.
