I was kind of thinking, we call black people African Americans. Or oriental people Asian Americans. What do people from Canada call black or oriental people who live in their country? Asian-Canadians? African-Canadians?

 

And what about black people who live in England or France? Are we the only country that uses this?

First of all, this French has to stop. What's this "we" stuff. I would think most people call Blacks, Blacks just like people call Whites, Whites. Asians would be Asians. Am I missing something here?

I've found that it's becoming more socially acceptable in alot of settings to call a black person black, and an asian american asian or oriental. Most of where I'm seeing this is in my PSC class. I'm not sure why, I've just noticed it's much more open as of late.

Isn't Oriental a rug? I would think that would be insulting. I would stick with Asian.

I read a textbook once that referred to African-Americans (or whatever is the socially acceptable term) as blacks. Ive always found it acceptable just expected African-American from a textbook for some reason.

African-Canadians I think. I know there is a Health Association of African-Canadians.

I have a friend that's from Canada, I'll ask him tonight. He works in a jail so I'm sure he's heard it all. I know he always calls them "Yea this one black guy". And it's usually not in a derogatory manner. Just what he says when he's telling us stories. I'll try to verify it though.

The terms African American and Asian American are stupid if you ask me. They came about from over sensitive americans trying not to offend anyone. I'm white... so you can call me a white guy. If I was black you should be able to call me a black guy, and so on and so forth.
