First I must say it was great talking to TOG before the game. The man is very knowledgeable about baseball and has a love for the sport. Safe travels to see your daughter tonight my friend.

 

Now to the game. Isler pitched for CCH with Koors going for Dixie. Isler was absolutely dominant, carrying a no-hitter throw 4 2/3 innings before the wheels started falling off what looked to be a 10-0 Cov Cath rout. The game was all Cov Cath until that bottom of the fifth for Dixie. Chamberlain for Dixie hit a well placed ball to Holucher at short and busted his tail down the line to ruin the no-no and extended the game. A few more hits followed (TOG, I would like to hear how you scored the ball up the middle to Holucher) and Dixie was able to push a run across to avoid the mercy rule.

 

Gerwe came in to pitch the 6th for the Blue Colonels and gave up one more run on a throwing error by Maile when he tried to pick Fischesser off at second. The five other runs for Dixie came in the seventh with Shumate on the mound for CCH. Shumate recorded the first two outs of the innings but Krumps brought Darner in to record the final out.

I'm pretty sure TOG is out of pocket until Sunday night.

Isler and CovCath were dominate for 4 2/3 innings, but the CovCath starters seemed to forget that baseball unlike football or basketball is played until the last out is made, and Dixie wasn't about to roll over and die with just one out remaining. Dixe to their credit, fought and fought hard congrats gentlemen!

 

The CovCath starters seemed to me to be over at Dewey's eathing pizza, instead of getting the last out of the 5th nning. Gentlemen, if you are going to move on this year you must play every inning like it's your last because if you play more games like this game, the season will be over sooner than later.

 

It was disappointing to me, to see the subs not playing well, and I am not talking about the errors, but their brain dead play in the field. Subs, it was embarrassing to see some of you on the diamond wearing a CovCath uniform (as an alum and a former CovCath baseball player) and I home Coach Krumps gave you all a ear full after the game.

BTW it was also nice seeing the CovCath starters knocking the cover off the ball, but again gentlemen, you need to keep your foot planted to the floor because once you get a team down, you got to keep them down.

Somebody told me that the Shumate kid got roughed up. Anyone know if this is true?

If you are speaking to how they played then....

that might be the worst thing I have ever seen posted on BGP about high school kids!! Being an alum gives no justification for a comment like that concerning 15, 16, and 17 year old kids.

:thumb: I thought the same thing about the criticism. It might not be the worst thing, but I was amazed at what I was reading. That's too bad.

As someone who attended the game, yes it was disapppointing that the starting pitcher pitched such a tremendous game, and the defense played so well with the starters and it all literally crumbled when the subs were put in, but at no point did I think that those boys did not deserve to wear that uniform. Schumate usually comes out and does a solid relief job, he just had a rough outting. And Dixie took advantage so good for them.

The OG Needs to settle down and maybe look at the coaching instead of the boys. I have seen Cov Cath play for the last three years and I don't think for one minute that for any reason the CCH players were to blame. Rather a coach that wants to play non starters just because your up a few runs, is the issue. The seniors and starters earned their spot on the field, at no point in 9th region baseball should a coach ever throw in non starters to finish a game. The boys earned their spots and deserve to finish the game. The OG needs to get off the kids and maybe focus on the small ball coach that CCH can't get rid of. Krumps knows his starters why does he try to get to know his non starters in a varsity game? Not to start things but it is clearly coaching and not the kids who love the sport.

You've got to be kidding me if a non starter can't get in a 10 - 0 then when is he going to play. At what point are these non starters going to gain the experience to be capable of stepping in when a starter goes down or fail to get the job done?:confused::confused::confused:

I think that if a coach does not give his subs some time through the course of the year then he is not doing his job. While winning the game at hand is one of his first concerns, when given the chance he needs to give his future starters some experience. I am sure that Krumps learned alot about his subs, and I am sure that the subs learned alot about the Varsity level of baseball.

As far as TOG statement, you will not find anyone on BGP pass out more compliments to CovCath players and their opponents. While the statement seems a bit strong, I am sure that he did not mean to come across so negative.

You know it funny! Year after year I post and I get called a CovCath Homer, a guy who wears blue and white glasses and who can't see or won't tell the truth about what is happening on the field, court or diamond. I get called out becuase I post that a player didn't or did make an error. I made a negative comment about what happeded in a game, and I get it again....

 

As punttheball stated, I have been passing out more positive comments than negative ones for years and you did notice that not once did I mention a player by name nor would I. Maybe I did come across a bit strong but if you had heard Krumps after the game.....well.....

 

And again I agree with Punttheball, Krumps learned a lot about the subs and the subs learned a lot about themselves in this game, some of it good, some of it not so good. It was a game where the Coach learned alot, and CovCath still won the game.

For those that are questioning TOG's comments about the subs, I ask if you yourself were at the game to watch and make your own opinion about how the subs played. Because from where I was standing the subs looked like their mind was elsewhere while in the field. I know I may get knocked for saying so since I am a Dixie guy but I call it how I see it. Cov Cath had us in a position to mercy rule us and go home in 5 but with the help of a few hustle plays we were able to extend the game for at least another inning. At that point Coach Krumps made the decision to put in the reserves and see what they could do. As punttheball and TOG both said, Coach learned a lot and so did his subs. During no point in that game did I think Krumps was wrong to play his subs because those kids have to get varsity experience somehow to build for the future as well as the present. Maybe with what he saw Krumps will shorten the leash on the subs. Hindsight is 20/20 but in the end the thing that matters is the score and Cov Cath still had the higher run total after the game was over. Congrats to the Blue Colonels and best of luck. I'm looking forward to the rematches later in the year.

If he was referring to their talent level, then his comment was over the top, but he wasn't. He was referring to their heart/attitude. When you put on the uniform at a tradition rich program, you better be ready to play day-in, day-out whether you're a starter or not. They probably heard the same thing after the game from coach Krumps.

Tradition? What does that have to do with it? If they were a team that has not had a winning record in 20 years, my opinion would be the same.

Every team and every player should be ready to play day in day out, period. Saying they could have been more focused and better prepared would be acceptable, not calling them embarrassing!

 

Your last sentence is correct, but that is done by the coach in the locker room. Where what is said in the locker room stays in the locker room. Not on anonymous message boards about teenagers.
