With Watts, and Polson followed by a large group of really solid high school players this could be one of the better Sr. Classes to come through the 12th recently.

 

Normally the 12th and 13th regions play a Jr. All Star game, composed of next seasons seniors. I havn't heard anything about the date but when I do I'll pass on the information. It's normally sometime in late June.

I have not heard any of the rumors about Watts not returning. From what I know this group is looking forward to, and already working for next year.

 

Anytime you have a great player, there will be rumors about him goning somewhere else. I don't think Watts is goning anywhere. He loves it in McCreary Co. McCreary Co. has been good to Watts and he has been good for McCreary Co.:banana:

This is my take:

 

1) West Jessamine is the team to beat in the region. They have the best point guard in the region. They proved the 12th region was stronger than what everybody in the state gave it credit to be with their run in the sweet sixteen.

 

Not sure about that...everybody knew the top 4 teams was far and away the weakest part of the bracket. Some underdog team was going to make it to the Final Four no matter what. I don't think anybody would be touting the 14th region had Hazard made it to Saturday morning. It was a good draw. No more or no less.

West Jessamine had a good draw, I definitely agree, but all year long people said the 12th was down all year long because some of the traditional powers weren't winning like people are used to seeing. West Jessamine beat Lexington Catholic and quite honestly, I think that even though West Jessamine got a good draw, I don't think anyone envisioned a team from the 12th region making the final four. For that, I think that you can make the statement that the 12th region was stronger than first thought.

I will agree. I follow Casey and based on how they fared against the 12th, I considered it a down year. The Rebels had close losses to Danville, Southwestern, and West Jessamine while beating Pulaski, Monticello, Somerset, and Garrard. Considering that West eventually won the region and Garrard and Danville were touted as contenders, I thought the 12th was weak.

 

As it turns out, McCreary, Lincoln, and West peaked at the right time and all three were playing pretty well by March. I was surprised to see West make it to the Final Four, but was pleased nonetheless. With all the youth in the 12th, 2009-10 should be much better.

It was a virtual toss up and the fact that the 12th came out proves the 12th was stronger than at first glance. How many people picked West Jessamine in the Sweet 16 contest to even win their first game? Most people didn't expect them to get past Josh Whitaker and Hazard, let alone make it to Saturday morning, and they gave Central all they could handle in a game that West could have easily won. Like I said, they got a great draw not having to play in the lower half, but making it to Saturday morning is quite an accomplishment regardless of their draw.

I'm a 14th region homer. I knew Hazard had a chance to make it to Saturday morning from the draw. It wouldn't have changed my opinion of how good they were had they got there though.

I think the bottom line is in a few years nobody will remember how easy their draw was... Just the fact that they made it to the final 4. :thumb:

Mercer is building a bright future but they must have the right coach, administration support and fan support to continue the growth.

Cundiff is a nice guy who gets a lot of flack for his coaching style. Should he be back? I say yes after what happened this year with his car accident. Spencer Tatum definately should not be the head coach. The man cannot coach which has been proven over several years at Harrodsburg and this year at Mercer.

 

To my knowledge, they have not fired their coach. However, rumblings are that it may not be a firing but that Nelson Cundiff will not be back next year. The Peanut Gallery (which includes me) is hoping that they will do a clean sweep of the bench and start over.

 

So which is it?:confused:

Does anyone think that with Hammonds leaving and Kelley coming in that West Jessamine is any less of a favorite? Are the changes in the coaching staff(is Springate coming back) going to affect West Jessamine negatively?

Any time there is a coaching change, it makes a difference. Sometimes good,sometimes bad, but it always changes the chemistry. Although it would be hard to duplicate the run West had at the end of last year, no matter the change. In their district, West is almost assured a regional spot. And once you have that, it makes it a 3 game season. (sorry for the excessive use of cliches')

Big Rob will get the Raiders to the Sweet 16 this year. He has the best team and best player.
