He applied for the Boyle job after Bottoms left, but Boyle went with Adams. I think they told Springate he needed more experience, but I am not sure about that. His mother's husband is the AD at Boyle, so there also may have been a conflict of interest in the hiring process. This is all speculation on my part and is not to be taken as facts except for the part about his mom being married to the AD at Boyle.

I would put Jamel Taylor in the top 10.

Wow purplepride, did not mean to ruffle your feathers. I was just taking up for Springate.I just felt like a mistake was made when we did not hire him when Bottoms left.In case I missed something we did not win a game in our district last season and we were not very good all season. It's all good. We will continue to get better, starting with camp at Centre this week. I like everything Adams is doing and have no reason to not like him or the direction of Rebel basketball. Last year was tough for all of us and to put it in a nutshell, it was a transition year. I think the players know what Adams wants and I feel things will begin to look up this year.

 

As far as Springate goes, I think he may have been more upset than anyone. He was good friends with my brother in law throughout high school. I have been told he really wanted the Boyle job. That being said, I wish him well, and I look forward to the day he becomes a head coach. He will be a good one for many years.

Looks as if the team that you thought you would have hear coming up in the future, based on your past post, has been dismantled. Seem to have taken some big hits over the past two seasons. Goins now at PC, Thacker - Rowan County, Gover - PC, Laign brothers - PC, rumor has it the Dishman brothers is going to SW. Can someone explain what happened here. I guess we know why Gover left but what about the other six?

And that's not all. Spear to SW, Griffith to SW, both Hall brothers to PC. This was a complete dismantling of what could have been the greatest teams to ever wear the purple and gold (Pure speculation since we will never know now). I guess Coach Thacker was the glue that held all of the younger kids together. Coach Daniels is a really good coach and a very nice person so I feel bad for him since he walked into a situation that started well before he got to Somerset. But, from what I can tell, Coach Daniels and the Jumpers will be just fine without these kids. Just not as good as what could have been.

I just want to know what these people think the outcome is going to be for their children. They do realize that SW and PC has student/athletes of their own. Do these parent beleive that these kids are going to SW to start over the FAB five. Then you still have some upper classmen and some solid players (Justin S) that was part of the ms team. You have the same situation at PC. Last time i checked you can only put 5 on the floor at one time and there is only one ball to go around.

 

I guess the positive thing about this is that those Megargel, Chevrount, Lange, and McWilliams will have an opporuntity to build their skills and there should not be any fighting for minutes. And Maybe some of those sophmores will get a chance to develop on the JV, since there are not many kids left below them to take minutes away. All this could end up being a blessing for SHS.

Lincoln beat a good Corbin team this weekend at the KBA state tourney. Don't be counting Lincoln out next season....

I didn't hear anything about Polson leaving West Jessamine at the Centre Camp, but I did hear he may possibly attend Centre. I didn't see Polson in the AAU tourney but he got stronger everyday at the Centre Camp. They looked like they were used to their new coach at the Centre Camp.

 

Mercer County, Lincoln County and Boyle County all played well this past weekend until they had to play the powerhouses. Mercer was beaten by Shelby Valley in the quarters, Lincoln was beaten by Lexington Christian in round 2, and Boyle was beaten by Scott County in the quarters. All the teams that beat them made it to the semifinals. Boyle had to beat Somerset and East Jessamine along the way so there was some early 12th region infighting going on. Lincoln beat Corbin and Mercer beat Leslie County and Harlan County.

 

I still think Mercer County will be a top 5 or higher team in the 12th region.

 

My wife told me the Townsend kid had an unbelievable game against Boyle County, but it wasn't enough. She said she thought he also had 40 points in one of the games last weekend.

You probably need to start a "What happened to Somerset?" thread so this post can stay on topic. But to give you some quick answers:

1)No, Spears can't be confirmed. It will be a wait and see situation.

2)Coach Thacker is a good person that was really involved with the youth program.

3)My guess is the parents are looking for a better basketball environment. One that appreciates hard work and dedication to basketball.

4)And the fab five would have to be Pulaski Co. since they have added the majority of what once was Somerset Future. The 47th district better watch out, this team is loaded! Young, but loaded!:thumb:
