April 6, 200917 yr What? It's a possibility. This is from the Memphis Commercial Appeal: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news...bunking-myths/ The appearance of trading coaches with Kentucky would be odd, if not off-putting to some. But let's face it. If Calipari had gone anywhere else, who's the best, most accomplished coach available? There's no doubt, it's Gillispie, who has been coach of the year in the Big 12 (2005, 2007) and the SEC (2008). Two years ago, nobody was hotter than Gillispie. And he wants the job. Wouldn't it be a heck of a story if the two parties who got wrecked by Kentucky join forces, both with something to prove? Now that's a "Wow" hire. :ohbrother::ohbrother::ohbrother:
April 6, 200917 yr Author That would be something else. UK would be getting the better coach AND the players to be named later
April 6, 200917 yr Would be very interesting to say the least. Right now he is the best guy on the market so you have to go for him. Arizona might go after him as well as they have been turned down by every other coach...
April 6, 200917 yr Author You know, I'm not a big fan of what he did at Kentucky, but I hope he gets one of these big-name jobs. I think he was a terrible fit for Kentucky, but I wouldn't mind seeing him do a good job at Memphis or even Arizona. Besides that, the NCAA Committee would have another opportunity to match UK up with Gillispie's team at some point in the NCAA Tournament
April 6, 200917 yr Avery Johnson or Reggie Theus will be the guy IMO. I don't see Billy Clyde having a head coaching gig this coming season unless something new opens up.
April 6, 200917 yr Author Avery Johnson or Reggie Theus will be the guy IMO. I don't see Billy Clyde having a head coaching gig this coming season unless something new opens up. That same article mentione Theus as a possibility, but I don't think I saw anything about Avery Johnson. Let me find that link again...
April 6, 200917 yr Author Here's the link and it does mention Avery Johnson (along with Isaish Thomas ): http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/apr/05/debunking-myths/
April 6, 200917 yr Author Here's another interesting article on the subject: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/apr/05/tigers-search-shouldnt-have-fallen-to-this/ “R.C. Johnson is going to be voted the athletics director of the year by the NABC,” said one Division 1 head coach, referring to the National Association of Basketball Coaches. “He’s getting everybody a raise.” I think we should have a gambling question: who gets a coach first - Arizona or Memphis?
April 6, 200917 yr Author Here's another Memphis site that thinks Gillispie is the man for the job: http://thememphisedge.com/2009/04/05/billy-gillispie-anyone/ He describes it as "the two parties who got screwed over by Kentucky joining forces with something to prove."

Arizona IMO. I think if they get turned down again, they may offer it to Pennell....
April 6, 200917 yr Author The guy at the Memphis Edge spoke with Bill Self and he is pushing hard for Memphis to hire BCG: http://thememphisedge.com/2009/04/06/bill-self-on-gillispie/ “Hes the best recruiter I’ve been around. I wish he could get involved (with Memphis).” FWIW, as I’ve explored the potential of a Gillispie candidacy, I’ve been told by sources that there’s a very good chance Daniel Orton would follow him if he got another Div. 1 job this season. :scared:
April 6, 200917 yr I heard yesterday the next target on the Memphis list is Leonard Hamilton... He's out.
