Not only does he have an outstanding skill set which is evident just from watching him do things on the baseball field, but he also carries himself with class.

I am always impressed to watch a young kid, who is hyped up by many people, just go about his business and play the game the right way. I was impressed with this when I watched Corey Farris last year, when I have seen Luke Maile and also in watching Hunter Jones.

I can definitely see from a coaching perspective how top D1 college coaches would just drool over this kid. His talent level, his work ethic, his pedigree and his character would be something anyone would love to have.

I have seen him play 4 or 5 times.. In my opinion the kid has all of the tools to be a high D1 prospect. He hits for power, average, and has great speed. The only things that bothers me about him is that he flubs alot of routine balls that he should make plays on..:thumb:

I hope all of this does happen for the kid because I'd like nothing more than to see someone from the 9th excel in college ball... I just havent seen him against top pitching...Ill go watch him this summer...I know he plays for Midland which will definitely help in his recruiting since during the school year it is tough for him to recieve such exposure at a small school in Bellevue. Is he a senior/junior? Because if he is a senior most of the major D1 schools have already given out their major scholarships. If he's a junior I'll stick my foot in my mouth! :thumb:

I believe that the fact that he plays for Midland in the summer only helps him during high school. The Midland organization carries such a history and tradition with it that a majority of the exposure he gets will be through that. However, Coach Sanders also does a ton for him because he is a part of a great summer organization and knows what college coaches are looking for and how to speak with them.

However, the fact that he plays summer baseball at Midland, I would think should allow him to play free and easy during the high school season without the pressure of having to get his name out there and get noticed. And being able to play baseball free and easy with no pressure, only helps results since we all know how hard it is to produce when you are constantly pressing.

I think after watching this kid play and watching his team mates (friends) react to him and rely on him, their may be more pressure on this kid during high school to preform than when playing with a bunch of studs from all over the country in the summer time. By pressure I'm talking about the self imposed kind because you don't want to let your team down. All that being said I think he is a great kid that handles him self very well. Wish him the best at the next level. Which ever one that may be. He has another year of high school ball.

One of the things about baseball when watching a player (more than any onther sport) unless they are pitching in the 90's when we think of D1 we think of domination of a game much like a football or basketball player. In any given game you might see 2 good pitches to hit and get no chances in the field.

I would have to agree with whoever said Jones isn't a top 25 caliber kid yet. I mean if he is only a junior he has a year or two to progress and improve, but I just don't see it. I don't want to say it is his name that is going to get him places, but I think if people are saying top 25's are looking at him than it is def. helping his case. He isn't above and beyond others I've seen, and he isn't any worse. Just looks like a kid playing HS ball who could play at a low D1 or high dII program at this point. Which is fine!

Lucky for him your not a scout. But you may want to give a couple of the ones that have been at the games already that he's not worthy.

I wouldn't say great...its an ok organization imo.

At this point, I would say this is a fairly accurate assessment. I think a very prestigious national ranking service had him as #91 in his junior class out of 385 ranked. And, of course, there were numerous seniors ranked above him. Doesn't mean he won't be a top 25 ranked player, but he's not right now. But he is definitley one of the top players in the NKY area.

I understood that. And I stick by what I said. I don't think he is a top 25 caliber player. I watch a lot of baseball up here, and he has never stood out to me when I've watched him. He is a better player on his team, and one of the good ones in NKY, but not exceptional. Not by any means. He has a year or so to improve, as he is only a junior which is great. But top 25 caliber players do not make errors on routine balls continuously, and I've seen games where he had multiple. He looks like he could play at a DII school, maybe a small D1 with the right fit, which is just great imo.

:thumb: Ok, gotcha. I must have missed that part of the thread. I would be surprised if he's getting many looks at this point by the top 25 teams, but if he has another season like last year and another solid Midland season, I think it's certainly a possibility.

Jimmyjr. This might be the first time we agree but yes Bluegrass (compared to several other organizations) is an ok organization and not anywhere near great.

 

My opinion: Hunter Jones will end up with a DI scholarship.
