Did Sainola pitch for HHS?

Yes was wild first two then settled down.Good pitching both teams.

Birds needed this win to get back on track.....Congrats Birds. How was attendance for the game?

I didn't get there until the 4th, but I saw Sainola hitting the outside corner hard, a Highlands batter get hit in the head by a breaking pitch and somehow not get awarded first base, some untimely errors for B-view, and a really nice opposite field walk-off dinger by Blake Newman.

Crowd was decent. Play of the game was also the blunder of the game. With two outs in the top of the 7th with Jones on second and not sure who was on first for Bellevue. Not sure if Sam Liggett got the call from the dugout or he did it on his own, but a double steal was on. Knowing he wasn't going to get Jones at third, he threw out the runner at second. Inning over. What was the Bellevue coach thinking? That's basically the same as making the third out at third base. You just don't do that.

Probably thinking that the catcher would try to nail the lead runner, as one would expect them to do in about 19 out of every 20 times this situation occurred. Credit to Liggett for making a heads up play. Defensively, he is absolutely rock solid.

I will agree...saw him play some this past year and came away impressed with his skills and how handles the game.

I thought the crowd was decent and it was a pretty nice day out for baseball. Loved smelling the hot dogs in the air.

 

Both teams were playing aggressively on the basepaths in fact earlier in the game the Tigers pulled off a double steal I believe.

 

I left in the 6th so I missed the drama at the end by Newman. Who gave up the dinger? If it was Young that is too bad because he threw a gem IMO. He has nice heat and like someone posted he was painting the corners.

 

On the play where Rizzo got hit in the earhole but wasnt awarded a base, I think Coach Baioini's plea was that it was a breaking pitch and the batter by no means leaned into the pitch. Personally I was miffed at the call as well because I dont know anybody who leans into a pitch with their head. LOL

 

I would put Bellevue right up there as a Top team to compete and possibly earn a trip to the Region this season.

 

Sainola is a big strong kid who doesnt seem to get rattled and kept bearing down and like tdyballgame said got into a nice groove. He was popping the mitt late into the 5th with some nice heat. I would like to see more offspeed stuff from both pitchers though. It seemed whenever they tried to throw a changeup it was way high.

 

I read in the Recorder newspaper that Hunter Jones is getting looks from a lot of big colleges. Does anyone know what schools are looking at him?

Hunter has a lot of schools looking at him... Kentucky, Miami Florida, North Carolina,Georgia, Arizona, long beach in California... And I think there is more but not sure... I think he's going to go to Kentucky also...

Rule 13

I liked the way Highlands found a way to get it done. When things arent going the way they need to be its nice to be able to find a way to get a win against a solid Bellevue team. Hopefully this will cause a little mo' for the Birds as the season gets rolling!!

Good game by both pitchers Sanolia (sp?) for Highlands and Young for Bellevue. Young pitched good enough to win this game. One earned run you should win those games. Bellevue D let them down again. Sanolia seemed to get stronger as the game went on, he got a little rattled early but settled down and pitched a good game. Both teams seem to be struggling at the plate a little. The umps must be focusing this year on making the batter at least attempt to get out of the way of the pitch. I've been to 5 games this year and seen this called 3 times, but all three times the batter made absolutely no attempt to get out of the way of the pitch or turned into the pitch.

From what I have been told just start with the top 25 ranked teams.

I like Bellevue! These kids are tough. The schedule Coach Sanders has this season is very competitive. I beleive he is making a statement with this team. I know he'd like to be winning more of these but lets see how they shape up be seasons end!

To take up for the Bellevue D, another thread had them turning 2 DPs in the 1st 2 innings and cutting down another runner at the plate on a WP/PB. Just because poor fielding in the 7th directly led to the walkoff, don't discount the work done in earlier innings to keep them in the game so there WAS a bottom of the 7th.
