Yeah, that was the buzz last night, hit ESPN News late in the evening. Hope he isn't just using UK as leverage for more money, I would like to see him at UK.

I hope UK does not put all of their eggs in one basket. Go after Calipari but feel out others through back channels, feel the interests of the "A" list, as well as a coach like Sean Miller. Some say why would Miller want to leave Xavier, or that he wouldn't leave, throw 2 to 2.5 million a year, a large buyout and loyalty bonus at him, and watch how it will spike his interest. Xavier cannot match the money! A good young coach on the rise, but could he handle the pressure at UK?

You can add Jay Bilas and Doug Gottlieb to the Calipari bandwagon. They both think that it's Calipari's job to lose.

Mad Dog Russo thinks that Calipari should be the backup plan and that Izzo should be the top target.

I think it comes down to ego. It's one thing to win at Memphis, but for a Coach like Cal if he comes to Kentucky and wins? He becomes a legend. He seems like the Pitino-type who views his legacy as extremely important and a legacy of winning at Memphis vs. Kentucky? If he has any sort of ego I can't imagine him turning it down. I could see him turning it down two years ago because he knew what kind of team he had. And he came up some free throw shots short of winning a national title. But now? It just makes sense IF he is the type who wants to go on the Mount Rushmore of College basketball.

If he is not an ego guy? Why come? He Coaches in a crappy conference, he will win 25 games a year, he has a much more patient fan base, he still recruits lights out at Memphis, and he owns the town.

I hope Calipari does accept the offer for a variety of reasons. Kentucky needs to find a fit that will excite the current roster of players, bring an image back to Kentucky that is positive, generate anticipation and excitement in general, and has an aura about them that stands out.

What is aggravating for any coach would be the...

MEDIA

The media in Kentucky have just about killed Kentucky sports of football and basketball over the past 20 years. The Lex. Herald-Leader is cutting staff and that may be a good thing...watching our media handle sports matters at the University of Kentucky is mind boggling to say the least and one of the most unattractive points about being the head coach of football or basketball. You would think since "Kentucky" is not a media blitzed area like NY, LA, Chicago, Atl, Houston, or Miami, that it wouldn't be as negative as it is...however, lots of grumblings around the state are tired of the "positions" and spins being thrown out by a select few who have media clout and voice.

I have always enjoyed Alan Cutler's viewpoints but the last two years he is just story hunting and trying to make a name for himself...His Geraldo Rivera like approach (Friday, chasing down BCG) was absurd and just plain stupid. I was completely turned off by this.

Andy Katz just said on "Mike and Mike" Calipari met with Kentucky yesterday and has a "mega-offer" and is meeting with Memphis officials today.

Is this pretty much exactly what he said?
