It is no coincidence that the last time South won a playoff game, it was when their defense was much better than it has been the past 3 seasons.

If he didn't, that is fine. But the fact is that a coach from a 5A school in GA has applied and been interviewed. That coach is originally from KY and wants to come back. It may or may not be Mo, but I do know that whomever the coach from GA was, they had an impressive interview. I am not sure how many coaches in GA used to coach in KY and are interested in coming back, but there is at least one.

 

And often, it is more about being closer to home and not the money. I took a HUGE paycut (42.8% just on my pay, plus another 25% cut on my wife's pay) to move back to Kentucky, and I loved the company I worked for and where I lived. But it was a chance for me to come home, and I am glad I took it.

 

The big issue for the school AD, county AD, and principal is discipline. They want a program run with great discipline.

I have heard that they have narrowed the search for head coach down to two candidates.

Could it be Troy Hobbs? He has been with Sphire for many years (at Catholic and in Georgia). He also played for Kentucky in the early 90's.

Troy has been looking for a gig in SE Kentucky. It could very well be him. This would be a coup for South Laurel.

If this is indeed who South Laurel is able to get, this indeed would be a good thing. After all, having 2 quality coaches in Laurel County will be a GREAT thing for high school football in London! Both programs were heading in the right direction when Duncum was at North and Irwin was at South. They Greg left and ended up back at Corbin and Irwin went to Alabama. I would LOVE to see both programs back on the rise! I was a Cardinal when it was Laurel County High School, and really want to see football in Laurel County finally get on the map!

I am hearing that an announcement is expected to come by Friday if all goes as planned in the next 24-48 hours. Apparently it is down to 2 candidates, but my source did not let me in on who those could be.
